Welcome to your world!

I’m delighted to welcome you to CBC’s first full-fledged online world music community.

So who is the world music community? That might be as difficult to define as the notion of world music itself.

But here’s one thing that’s certain: If you are someone who loves, likes or has a tiny bit of curiosity about music from around the world, this part of the new CBC Music website is for you.

Your contributions, through commenting, through making story suggestions, through sharing world music news and your favourite artists, are an essential part of building CBC world music.

In other words, if you’re reading this, you already are a vital part of the world music community!

You can get involved pronto – just sign up at CBC Music, which is a very easy (and free!) process.

Before you start exploring the website, a few words about what’s coming up at CBC world music.

- Q&As with artists from around the world.

- Must Hear: a series of blog posts from members of the world music industry. The folks who work so hard to present the music at concerts and festivals, and work directly with musicians are yet another part of this community.

- Playlists from world music performers.

- Videos of world music performers, both from the deep archival vaults of YouTube, and, in future, from CBC Music’s own videographers.

- World music concerts, from CBC Music’s Concerts on Demand.

- News from the world of world music, and views – ours and yours – about the latest world music happenings.

CBC Music is a very big website, and we at world music are a very small, but enthusiastic team. We hope to share something new on the site on a daily basis.

Some of the most beautiful, interesting music being made on the face of the planet falls under that “world music” banner, and we look forward to experiencing it along with you.

To start that proverbial ball (or should it be “globe”?) rolling, please let us know what you think, through the comments field below, and through our brand spankin’ new email address: world@cbc.ca
