"First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin"
— Leonard Cohen
Though, in our case, it probably makes sense to start somewhere smaller, like Sudbury or Moose Jaw.
Last April, we launched CBC Electronic on Facebook, and within a short time, thousands of you expressed your happiness and relief and impatience. Finally, CBC was reaching out to the electronic community in a way not seen since Brave New Waves.
For months, we posted our little posts on Facebook and hinted something bigger was on the way. And now, at last, it's here. What you are now seeing is electronic’s permanent home at CBC Music, the beta version of CBC's new music portal.
While this is a humble beginning, we aspire to something bigger. And we'll get there, adhering to one of the original goals we posted on Facebook last year: To serve up an eclectic blend of electronic music, culture and all sorts of other good stuff, from at home and abroad, to people who should probably be getting more sleep.
So what can you do here? Well, for one, you can follow this blog, where we'll be posting lots of juicy electronic tidbits, including longer-form posts from some of the country's best electronic journalists.
You can also check out our two unhosted streams, which you'll find in the audio player to the right. (Just scroll to the very bottom to find the electronic choices.)
And you can search for and listen to your favourite artists who have pages on the old CBC Radio 3 site, now merging with CBC Music. If you are a producer yourself, please get in there and upload your stuff!
Most important, you can help us build our electronic community by listening, reading and engaging. We are a very small team, so we need your help. Help put the public into your public broadcaster, and tell us what you like or hate, what you think we should be doing and how we should be doing it. We're all ears.
