There’s that old saying in music that you have your whole life to put out your first release, and two years for the second. After that, well – it’s anyone’s guess what the perfect formula is for releasing music.
But one thing most artists want is to stay in the hearts and minds of their fans and that usually means a steady stream of singles, then albums and videos and various other projects.Or does it?
This week Leonard Cohen released his first original album in eight years. Much fanfare ensued. Though at 77 I’m not sure if anyone actually expected any new music anyway. But this wait, this pause in output, seems to be working in his favour; it’s as though fans were just holding their breath waiting.
Then there are those artists that put out a new something every few months it seems, from digital singles to videos to anything to keep their music moving around the internet and an ipod. What do you think?
HOW LONG IS TOO LONG TO WAIT FOR NEW MUSIC?
DO YOU MIND IF A MUSICIAN TAKES HIS TIME?
DO YOU LOSE INTEREST IF YOU HAVE TO WAIT TOO LONG FOR NEW MUSIC?
I read today that Halifax’s Mike O’Neill has some new music coming out, his first since 2004!
