You know the remarkable thing about Foxconn is that 40% of the world's electronics are made there, but the only company anyone references is Apple. In fact most just call it an Apple factory.

And what is shitty about that, is that if you think that Foxconn's working conditions are deplorable (which you should), don't make this a lowest common denominator story – a chance to get that giant we all love to hate, Apple. That's lazy reportage, bent on getting readers eyes more than it is at changing a horrible situation.

And put that call to all the tech companies that use Foxconn, and direct the disgust to the company as well as the country who's labour inspection policies have created the ability to do this.

Apple is definitely part of this and they need to do something about it, but I find it absurd that the world presumes that it is something they did on their own.

Believe you me, if Apple didn't use this factory, would anyone be bother taking on the plight?

(I of course am not speaking to you specifically, but to the numerous stories and news people that have written the Apple factory sotries)

I will say what needs to happen here is Apple needs to quickly step up and manadate that there be changes and an improvement on the inspections process to prevent it in the future.

They can play blissfully dumb up until it was discovered, but to be a good corporate citizen they need to step up now and flex their muscle.

I mean if for no other reason than to capitalize on the PR and spin it so they're a good company albeit it kind of slimy making it look like you solved the labour problems of the world, when really you should have known this and exposed it yourself.

Western will forever hold a wonderful wonderful place in my heart. It is a great school with great spirit. I've heard the Master's experience is different than the undergrad - but I think you made a fantastic choice :) It has great teachers and great capability for research. I found the administration was always very attentive to my needs as well. I also made the best friends anyone could ask for their.There def. is a western stereotype - that there is some truth to - BUT, you just need to look beyond it, find your place, get involved, and explore what the university and city has to offer!Plus Call the Office is a great venue!

I am doing a Masters in Library and Information Sy Enz (I think it's ridiculous that it's called "science," so I make fun of it).  I'm taking a pretty full course load, so I think my experience - as you say - may be a little different than an undergrad's, but I still intend to get involved in the community as much as I can.  Call the Office - got it.  I am already making lists.
