Ha, even though I edit a magazine for meeting and event planners, I am definitely more of a fly by the seat of my pants kind of person. Russ is the planner! And he does it very well.

I am a combustion of both, like my fellow Cathy. :) I like to know a loose plan of what's going on but life's curveballs never let things go exactly the way they're supposed to.

I used to be a hardcore planner. Everything had to be mapped out when I was going on a trip. Or even just my day to day life. I had a lot on the go (work full time, school full time, plus a 21 yr old's social life!) and if something wasn't put in my phone's calendar, it wasn't going to happen. Having the memory of a goldfish made that a necessity as well. 

I've gotten significantly better at flying by the seat of my pants, and that little addition of spontaneity has gotten me into some awesome situations :) Balls actually made me better at realizing not everything had to be planned out this summer, just by hanging with her and how easy going she always is :)

I'm most excited to hear the funnies that come out of you guys talking today! Oh, and please give Laura and AB hugs for me :) Sad they won't be coming to my island on their upcoming tour!! And I can't even get them a tour care package this time either. (I sent one back with MotherMother when Rococode were on tour opening for MM)

Convince them otherwise? k thanks!

BTW, I'm a master planner.  In fact, I get great joy out of planning, which I look at like a puzzle.  Putting together my epic trip last year was great fun, and I always knew where I had to be - of course, getting discounted tickets on Amtrak and VIA Rail required advanced planning or it would have probably cost 75% more - if I could get space!  But when the ironically named Tropical Storm Lee came along and closed Amtrak service to New Orleans, I flew from New Orleans to Detroit.  Benefit: an extra 24 hours with Russ and Cathleen in Dearborn.  (Allowed to me to do background checks on those Michigan residents for potential FOTY status.  They passed.)

I hope Cool Ranch Doritos are the cure.

Moving from Victoria to Winnipeg a few years ago, one of the most difficult cultural shifts was getting used to people actually scheduling future plans. Canoe trips and cabin trips are pretty much booked for the whole summer by the end of April. In a place where summer days are scarce, no one dares to leave summer activities to spontaneity, I guess. 

So I am going out to Victoria in a couple of months and I emailed someone to ask if they were going to be around when I'm out there. They emailed back, "I'm not sure, ask me closer to the date when you are here." At first this seemed kind of harsh until I remembered. Oh right . . .Victoria. 

@Yort, I haven't spoken to (interacted with) a horse in years. May I come and play with you horses please?

i'm a planner, quite a bit, but I try to be open.  I mean, you don't want to miss out on something last minute & wonderful just because you're OCD or whatever. I will say, it drives me crazy when I'm planning a trip to Canada & people are all oh I don't know if i can meet up or what's going on. & i get there & then there oh, I decided to go to another show. why didn't you let me know? like it's my fault.  hate that

yort - going to see an old friend tonight at Molly Malone's here.  it's a group called Victor & Penny. they do old 20's & 30's style stuff. ukelele & all. very excited. haven't seen Erin (aka penny) in a few years.

I will trust you folk about the pork poutine & will try but pork is not a food i associate with gravy. except in the south when we do sausage with white gravy & pour it over biscuits.

oh dear...how likely is it that Vish and Lana might come back to R3? I have a feeling they don't like it as much for the reason that they can't have their own blog topics, and I feel bad whenever I hear them because they are supposed to be representing canadian content too.

While it might be correct that you shotgun a lot, it takes all kinds to make a world, and for some people to value-judge you as being too something -- however natural a thing it is for them to do -- is only really based on what they feel is normal.

Montreal style smoked meat is not smoked, despite the word, it is cured and salted and spiced (a hell of a lot, too much say New Yorkers) on the outside.

The Kenzie's smoked pulled pork is smoked in a smoker. Real smoky, no doubt carcinogenic, and delicious.

(One thing that's funny is that when Charlie Sheen was still on Two and a Half Men, one day while on the porch with his brother, he was explaining himself that way, too. I thought it was rather funny!)
