Vancouver singer-songwriter Hannah Georgas is currently out on the road as the opening act and backup singer for Kathleen Edwards on her massive tour of North America and Europe.
She is also currently working on a highly anticipated follow up to her 2010 Juno nomninated album This is Good, set to be released later this year.
I caught up with her between tour dates to talk about travelling, Letterman and laughing on stage.
1. How has traveling changed for you since you first began? What do you look forward to now that you didn’t before?
I feel like I've developed a nice, daily routine and I'm finding the groove of being on tour. It took me a little bit of time to adjust to sleeping and living on the tour bus. I now look forward to sleeping in my bunk...my little cocoon.
2. How was it playing on Letterman? What’s David really like?
I had an absolute blast! It went by so quickly. I blinked and it was all done. I was super excited for Kathleen and all of us had a great time performing with her. My encounter with David was very friendly. I had a quick hello/how are you interaction with him. He took a real interest in Lyle the drummer's hat. His assistant contacted Lyle asking where David could find his hat.
3. Give me an example of a crappy or creepy thing that has happened to you on the road.
I can honestly say that there haven't been any crappy moments on this tour. I got a little sick right before the US leg started but I managed to get rid of it right before we started doing a lot of travelling. So far, no complaints.
4. Who is the most interesting person you have met on the road?
I got my make up done with Ricky Gervais before the David Letterman show. My producer Graham Walsh told me if I got him an autograph, he would make me cookies anytime I wanted and so the whole time I was thinking about that... but I totally chickened out. I tried to play it pretty cool and ended up not saying a thing.
5. We love stories – embarrassing, scary, good natured – tell us a good touring story.
I always like listening to Kathleen's stage banter. She makes me laugh.. a lot.
Come to a show and you'll see what I mean.
