Toronto's Eight and a Half continues the lauded Canadian tradition of the indie super-group with "Go Ego" from their self-titled album.
When Justin Peroff of Broken Social Scene and Dave Hamelin and Liam O'Neil of The Stills were looking to start a new music project, they figured that contrary to the old sitcom adage, eight was, in fact, not enough and decided to add in an extra half for good measure.
A richly-layered, glitchy, synth heavy track with harmonic vocals that stay true to the source bands' respective pedigrees, "Go Ego" generously fills the void in the national musical landscape left by the conspicuous hiatus of Kevin Drew's last gang. With tracks like this, Eight and a Half are set to transcend the combined shadows cast from their former teams and cement a name for themselves in the lexicon of numerical rock fans new and old.
