Basically music is one of my 'inanimate loves', so chances are if you are of the opposite sex, and reasonably skilled at making music in some way, shape or form, I will crush on you, on some level.

Partly because as someone who can't even play a hockey stick well, I am amazed by anyone who plays an instrument. And partly because there is nothing sexier to me than someone who can create more music for me to hear.

not sure about a musician crush, at least a Cdn indie one. I consider myself lucky in love; married for 15 years so far, and still in love. Sounds cheesy (but it's actually true). Of course there've been times when I wasn't sure about it all working out. However, we both continue to evolve, find joy in common interests, and support each other's crazyness. <3

I'm currently on both, for fun and giggles, but I'm taking the sound streaming through iTunes (for the usual EQ + volume reasons). On the old stream, for the reason mentioned below (which translates into better sound quality)

TECHIE NOTE: on iTunes, the kbit/s of the OLD STREAM can be double-clicked and kicked up to 160, BUT the new stream (for the new site) only ever seems to come out at 128 kbit/s (the standard, it would seem).

I'd like to believe that, my man, but the fact remains that my ears detect an immediate improvement when reaching 160 after 128 kbit/s.

Just as they do between 96 kbit/s and 128, as R3 has sometimes started a day at that lower rate on iTunes (rarely).

One more thing: earlier today, I couldn't get the old R3 iTunes stream to kick up from 128 to 160, and this is the thing: coming out at reputedly the same kbit rate, the two R3 streams, old and new, did not sound the same! The old one sounded somewhat better defined (on my iMac speakers).

I don't understand where the heck that would come from.

@benoit:  try this:  Compare the stream (web stream) to the same track thats played in one of your playlists.  Those playlist songs are 128 kbps, im pretty certain of this. 

It is possible that the webstream starts dropping packets as web traffic increases (due to increased listeners?), which may result in decreased sound quality.

The old/new streams may be subjected to a different pre-amp mixing... that is something I couldnt speculate about.

Ok, I think I change my mind. I don't know if it's my number one crush, but I've had a pretty big crush on Casey of Elliot Brood since seeing the band play at the Olympics, a few years ago. Totally irrational. Not cuz of his looks so much. Something about the way he plays music and how happy he looks when playing....etc. etc.

A positive for the new site: It updates much quicker for me than the old site did. My network at work sucks and if I made a comment or tried to look at a playlist or a member profile, the screen would just be black for long minutes. It made things frustrating for me. That part doesn't seem to be a problem for me here on the new site. :)

I honestly don't mind they're going away and I think I prefer the new comments format with all the metadata on the right with only the actual comment on the left makes for a very readable stream of people talking. Subjects and metadata get in the way and I think it's easy enough to get the information on who I'm talking to and what it's about across without them.

Since we're sharing: I proposed to my lovely wife - Alisa - 6 years ago on the backside of Whitewater Ski resort in Nelson, BC on her favorite run. She had spent several winters as snowboard bum there previous to that and I knew that it was the right place and time to do it. It was an epic day of powder and we were having so much fun, she couldn't resist. I of course did not have a ring with me but she still said yes after a few minutes of giddiness. I later gave her a ring on Valentines day that year on Cypress Mountain near Vancouver. We are still happily married and now have an amazing little addition to our family Mica who is now 1.5 years old.

I was lucky that my wife was working in Italy the summer that I decided to propose to her - I flew in and we began what she thought was a just a summer trip - first on the list was Lake Como (amazing place) I proposed to her that first night and then we toured around Italy for 2 weeks. We've been happily married for 4 years and we have a 1-year old Miles...

Coming up on our 29th anniversary. I have to admit, I can't even remember where I proposed. It all worked out pretty well, we have 2 beautiful grown children, and I am now a Grandfather. And still in love with the beautiful woman I married.

Proposal stories (to make cmac frown if nothing else):

I proposed last July at San Padre National Seashore at Corpus Christi. We were beach camping, set up our tent before dark, then walked along the beach for the sunset, sat with our feet in the surf and watched the stars come out. Then got down on my knee and proposed. Oh, and there were shooting stars too.

Speaking for proposals, this may be common thought here but anyone else think Valentine's Day is an especially horrible day to propose? There's been a bananas amount of ads from Spence Diamonds on Vancouver bus stops pushing propsal rings. I honestly feel that any holiday is a bad day to propose unless it's a couple created event (eg. anniversaries, day you first met, annual couples yak shaving). Thought I'd see if it's just me.

I have nothing against V-Day, except that it falls on my birthday and I can never get dinner reservations anywhere!My crushes include (but are not limited to) Chad Van Gaalen (makes a girl want to change her name to Sara), Bry Webb, NQ Arbuckle, JUSTIN RUTLEDGE (sigh...), Doug Paisley.... and I have friend-crushes on Basia Bulat and Kathleen Edwards.

Definitely, Alberto and I spend a relatively large amount of time apart and I think that it has actually strengthened our relationship by making us maintain all the other (non-romantic) relationships outside of our own. 

Unfortunately my other relationship- with my PhD is a WHOLE different story. 

Apology accepted.  I'm still a little sensitive after someone yelled "Gingers have no souls" out of a car window at my daughter as she walked home from school.

@Grant: no awwws needed, I'm actually looking forward to it! 

"Gingers have no souls" is just the opposite of what I think. (I've tended to associate it often with the beauty...inner and outer...that was often celebrated and valued in the Pre-Raphaelite Period of art, etc.)

really? I like it! It's bright and readable and (soon will be) funtional. The very first time this R3 site came online I shuddered at the colour scheme. Looks "cool" in a goth kind of way, but the only text that's tougher to read than light on dark is red on blue (or blue on red)

@sbarbara- my pleasure, as both my husband and I are really independent people, I always find it annoying when people piss on the singles, I love my alone time almost as much as I hate it when couples vanish once they find each other. Not healthy.
