Good Day! 

It was a great weekend! I attended some of the Saturday portions of Shivering songs. The songwriters circle with David Myles, Mike O'Neil, Andrew Sisk, and Katherine MacLelland was really great! Then later on that night attended the show headlined by Snailhouse. Always good to see him live again. Also, briefly met Lisa Christensen after the songwriters circle. So all in all I call it a successful weekend.

I have a question for Lee. Which province is your least favourite and why? Don't be afraid to be honest. 

Hey did those Californians bring the sunshine with them, or are we breaking out some of our precious stock in their honour?

Regardless, glad that they'll get to see a little more of the city without the aid of umbrellas!

Toured around Halifax for the first time whilst listening to "Grant Lawrence, King of the Forest" by the always amazing Hextalls.HAVE YOU HEARD THIS YET GRANT??!

No I missed that one! It was at the Playhouse so I think it was probably a little pricey. Plus there was an Arkells show last week I had to go to. Can only buy so many tickets. 

Not much went on here last weekend, spent most of it reading about the economic crisis 8-)

Grant, you love geography in general don't you?  I love how you always put a band or a song to a region/city or province.  You paint a picture of your country like know other!  I love that and appreciate it as an outsider who's only seen Southern Ontario and Montreal for a few hours!

I was busy outside this weekend and missed almost everything superbowl related, but I did catch the Madonna show.  WOW.

I did not miss out on the gorgeous weather here in Vancouver.  Lee and Peggy, this weather is all for you.  Hope you're enjoying it.

I saw City & Colour on Friday night for the first time. He is pretty good live.. sounds just like the records.

Then I enjoyed the beautiful weather we've been having for the rest of the weekend. Walked on the river at the Forks yesterday. It was really nice.

On Friday we went to see Jeremy Fisher and Chris Velan at the Black Sheep Inn -- it was awesome!  Then on Saturday they hosted an epic cross-country ski outing in Gatineau Park, the weather was absolutely perfect and it was just beautiful.  You'll be glad to know that Jeremy Fisher was looking pretty jaunty in his Radio 3 toque...They had another set at the Black Sheep Inn Saturday night but I had to hightail it back to Montreal, but boy oh boy between the gig and the outing I had a wonderful time.  The guys and all the folks who came were exceptionally nice, it was a ton of fun!

I'm a man.  I did not watch it. I went outside and threw the football around.  Much more fun.

But Johnny Cash does it and we make t-shirts and belt buckles of it.

I bet Lee flips the bird all the time while on air.

Ny weekend was too short.

Friday was the Missus' birthday.  I ordered an ice cream cake, but they didn't make it so we ended up with Joel's ice cream cake.  He ordered chocolate, strawberry and bubblegum ice cream in his ice cream cake.  It was better than I thought it would be.

Saturday - went out for dinner with the Missus and then played hockey.  Sunday I made birthday cupcakes for her and then we watched the Super Bowl at my brother's place.  I thought about taking today off, but too much to do at work.

I don't know how many other bloggers out there are from Whitehorse?  LIke everything else, I think we end up as a satelite entity of Vancouver.

at the game on saturday, the other team had a... little person... playing with them.

he was almost as short as Grant.

I had no idea that cardboard cutouts could smell so bad.

My weekend was great!  gf and I planned a Mardi Gras party on Saturday.  Instead of bringing food and booze we asked everyone to bring a $10 donation for the Teega Wende orphanage in Burkina Faso through Canadian charity CARO.  We raised almost $600 with more trickling in. gf and I will be matching the donation for a total of $1200, which is enough to care for 3 kids for a year! The party was a blast and a first opportunity for most of our friends to meet the other.  Happily, they seem to agree that we've chosen well. 

The party was better half's idea and she hosted.  It means so much to me because I lived with the orphanage's founders in 2004 and created the link between them and CARO.  In short, she's a keeper. 

So, my question to @mcfflyer and #peggylee is: how do you keep the keepers?!

This weekend in Toronto was friggin beautiful. Went to the Roller Derby season opener featuring a halftime set by the Cowgirl Choir. Its been so sunny and mild out- maybe instead of a winter clothing contest you should be giving away cbc3 sunglasses!

Last October when Said the Whale were in NY I hung out with them on that late October afternoon. After the gig they hauled all their gear outside of the club to load it all in a van that hadn't arrived yet. Then I suddenly realized I was the only person with the stuff. All the others had momentarily left the stuff, gone back in the club to say goodbye to some folks or to get more stuff. There I was on a Manhattan sidewalk, the only person near the stuff. Needless to say, with their track record of loss through theft I didn't budge until they reappeared.  

It was one of those things that I just finally gave up on, Kirby.

Hey, I never really left!  Work internet connection's been bad for streaming lately.  TexR3 works!  +10C here, up from a low of -1, and looking at a high of 14.  Normal is 16-17... so it is "chilly."

What Canadian town would you punch in the face if Canadian towns had faces? Or something like that. It's important that I know.

That is fair, it is a long way to go.  And then you get here (Whitehorse) and it is another 6 hours drive just to get to Dawson (which you really have to see).  It might be one of the prettiest drives around though, if that is helpful.

A lot of people drive up from south too.  I've done that drive a couple of times and it is pretty awesome.

I tell everyone that will listen to me that the Yukon is pretty friggin amazing though.  I try to get as many people as possible to come up here and see it.  I was surprised my SO (then gf, now wife) OK'd the move up here.  Let me know if you need help selling it to the SO though.  I may be able to send along some info or pictures to help convince that this is a pretty fantastic vacation spot!

it's a pretty simple concept - every Sunday we'll champion a short film for folk to check out. came out of a conversation with an Brit filmmaker buddy last week. & we decided it had possibilities. For now, it's just the tweety. will have a blog set up in a couple days so we can keep a list of titles for folk & the like. & there is a website in the the works. I'm really excited about the project.

yes, US Beer is quite good. 

When people make the comparison I think they are referring to the 'common' brews. (ie. the C-lites and B-lites, OM, PBR, etc...)  I would argue that the canadian equivalents are no better.

Way more micro-brews in the USA, and many are cranking out better products. THey are just not well known to the averge guy on the street.  

ps. im not dissing Canadian beer.... I love the brews available by the micros.

I completely agree.  Frankly, the one part of going home that really kills me is the quality, breadth, but espedially price of Canadian micro-brews relative to America.  Some really, really great stuff down here!  

I think our taxes on alcohol are a helluvalot higher than they generally are in the U.S.

it comes down to laws, surprisingly the great land of Canada has worse laws than the US when it comes to alcohol taxation laws, which is a whole very weird world of rules. Anyhow, most beer is owned by one big conglomerate so the debate isn't US or Canadian - you'd be surprised who owns what.

That particular joke goes back to at least the 80s when I heard it. The American beer we knew was  light beer and we didn't have much of that on our shelves yet then.
