It’s been a surreal month for Vancouver-based pop singer-songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen. In the last two weeks, the rising star released a new EP, flew to Los Angeles to meet her superstar supporter Justin Bieber, and wound up signing a contract with Bieber’s management.

“I can’t explain the last week to you,” Jepsen shared with fans on her blog last week. “Flights, photos, interviews and the constant worry that it’s all too good to be true. It has required deep breaths.”

Since the “Call Me Baby” singer crafted “the catchiest song” Bieber has ever heard, we wanted to find out about her influences. CBC Music asked Jepsen to put her iPod on shuffle, and tell us about the first 10 tracks to play. Her playlist includes fellow Canadian singer-songwriters Feist, Tegan and Sara and Joni Mitchell. Jepsen also doles out some breakup song advice to her young fans, courtesy of Cat Power.

1. “Call Your Girlfriend”
Robyn
“The first time I heard this song, I stopped what I was doing and listened to every lyric. It still makes me stop whatever I am doing. It's a paralyzing song that way for me. Love it.”

2. “Wild is the Wind”
Cat Power (written by Dimitri Tiomkin and Ned Washington)
“This is a sad, bottle of red and bubble bath kind of song. Put it on after a rough breakup and be warned that you might call him.”

3. “Truth or Dare”
Marianas Trench
“The beat is awesome. I can't help but dance whenever it comes on.”

4. “I Feel it All”
Feist
“This tune reminds me of my Canadian Idol days. I would play it whenever things felt like too much.”

5. “Call it Off”
Tegan and Sara
“I have always loved these girls since when they were blondes. This particular tune is perfection. They have mastered the tortured love song.”

6. “Up on the Roof”
James Taylor
“Classic. I used to climb up to my roof as a child and listen to this album front to back. Makes me feel nostalgic.”

7. “A Case of You”
Joni Mitchell
“Lyrically ... Nothing can top this tune. I am inspired and awed each time I hear it.”

8. “Bulletproof”
La Roux
“This song makes me feel edgy. It's so dancey and rough and grrrr! I like it.”

9. “Comfortable”
John Mayer
“Oh John. Our love would be comfortable. One of my faves by him for sure. It's a journal entry at its finest.”

10. “Moondance”
Van Morrison
“This song reminds me of my family and makes me happy no matter where I am or what I am doing when I hear it. All our dance parties end with a jam to this tune.”
