My favorite item is probably my red Radio 3 scarf which was kindly given to me by our fellow blogger and my show going buddy Brenda "knottyn3rb" Lee.  

I too am a fan of my toque.... everyone here likes it becasue its white and blue.... so remember folks, portland people like the white and blue stuff

That is a nice belt buckle. I kind of wish I wore belts. (Addendum, I almost just typed pants instead of belts...haha)

My favourite item of clothing is my jacket from the Boston Marathon.  I worked hard for that thing, and wearing it is a like badge of honour.  It's also (like CBC wear) something that, when you wear it, kind of marks you as belonging to a little club consisting of those who recognize what it is and what it represents.  

I am also very keen on my red shoes, (the Bentens from Keep)... I have had people grab my shin and look at the little picture on the bottoms of them before and swoon..... I have two pairs of these shoes...

Im partial to my 8-ball jacket.  Why isnt there a R3-ball version?

I want that buckle, but not as much as I want a CBC sweater.

I have a pair of ripped jeans, no longer wearable in public, that I just can't part with. It's ridiculous that I keep them, as I rarely wear them, but I love them too much to let them go.

Hmmm... I am going to the Ceeb later tonight for the Hey Ocean! show. Maybe I'll sneak down to the basement and yoink a buckle.

I make a lot of my own clothes. My favorite item in my wardrobe is a tan sundress I made from a retro Vogue pattern. It's short sleeved with a boat-neckline, it buttons up the front, and the skirt portion has a pattern along the bottom edge. Whenever I wear it out on the town, someone will come up to me and compliment me on it. That's when I get to boast that I made it myself.

i'm stuck on gingerbread and while other streams, and other CBC feeds work, Radio3 does not.

On the TuneIn app, it's still using the old schedule. For example, right now it says it is still the Craig Norris Hour. 

I met someone on the train who had the same CBC vintage shoulder bag as me. I told her she had great taste. She told me it was actually a gift and she only used it to carry her gym clothes in. I wanted to cry.

I don't own one of those scarves or tuques (not a complaint), but it's happened a few times that, when I'm out listening to an indie band, I'll ask a person if she or he listens to R3. I often get a yes to that.

So I mention that I do too, and that I'm Benoit (fO); sometimes, bang, the light comes on, because the person's been reading the blog. It's a little weird, but interesting.

Favourite Clothing Item: My late grandfather's hat, which was bestowed on me as an heirloom. It looks fresh off the set of this canadian cult classic.

Howdy! Without a doubt my favourite article of clothing is a pair of black leather mexican-style cowboy boots worth $200 that I got BRAND NEW for $10. I had been babysitting them and I had my eye on for weeks (they were the last pair, in MY SIZE, and I sort of hit them in a weird corner in a wrong sized area). Finally they went down to $100 on sale and while I couldn't really afford them, I was going out on an on-line set-up date that night and felt I could use the boost. Anyway, I went to the til and the girl said, "Oh my. These are scanning for TEN DOLLARS!" I said  "Uhhh, what does that mean?" She said, "Head office policy is that you get it for what it scans for if it's less than the advertised price." I said, "SOLD!" and put them on right then and there because if they wanted them back they were going to have to pry them off my cold, dead feat. And just i n case you were wondering, the date was a bit of a dud while these boots live on in re-soled and re-toed wonder thanks to a good cobbler.

A fun craft project I made with kids at the park I used to work at was homemade belt buckles. If you find old fridge magnets or magnetic tape (not the kind in cassettes, the other kind) you can attach a picture of whatever you like to it (i.e. a ghost, a T-Rex, a G-Law "Stars of Public Broadcasting" rookie card) and wear it around on your pants all day! The kids loved it!

My hands-down favorite clothing item is my (are my?) faux-fur lined winter boots. I once saw a Sesame Street skit where Robin Williams mashed a banana into his shoe, put it on, and declared "you've never lived a day until you've had a banana in your shoe!". That's what walking around in my boots feels like, except minus the gross squelching sound.

I find it funny people discuss social media in the same air that crack addicts talk about procuring their next fix.

I have been "clean" from facebook for over a year now, and have had absolutely no regrets. I envision myself as a beacon for those looking to escape from the clutches of their addiction! When I am asked if I have facebook and respond "no" I suffer looks like I have a third eye (which, in this case; I see as being "opened", not "blind").

Any thoughts on future trends?

@javajava [160] - Over the hill in Sparks, eh?  (To those not familiar, Sparks is a town just east of Reno)  So, were you at the Hey Rosetta! show at the Crystal Bay Club last Friday?

As for Sacramento venues, there certainly is a great place on J Street, Harlow's, where I've seen AC Newman, Mother Mother and Dan Mangan.  Easily, the nicest place in town.  I've certainly heard of the Classic Juke Box, but never been there. 

Luigi's is in the mid town part of Sacramento,, the "hip" part of town, and although Luigi's is just a pizza by the slice parlor, they have a side room with a stage that STW will be playing at.  Although all ages, there are good bars around it and hopefully there will be some street walking traffic and it might pull people in.  Be sure to walk up and say hello!

My all-time favorite clothing item: Columbia Sporstware Sandals, 12 years old and still rolling at special occasions...(where there's good ventalation). They've toured China Three times, (climbed twice on the Great Wall), Thailand twice, Japan once. Been to the Artic in AK and YT to the southern deserts of the SW...Oh not to forget: all the Hawaiian Islands.... Anybody have a good suggestion on how to get that odor out of 12 y/o sandals?????????

@ USChE - no ideas about the odour but if you find any solutions, please let me know - had to ditch a couple pairs of tevas because it was out of control! I have found that a couple drops of the essential oil of your choice can help quite a bit - at least a pleasant odour and it isn't just a perfume over something less appealing (ie lavender, tea tree or peppermint).

The Story!

I was at a show at Call The Office by myself and a guy was wearing the sweater. I had a couple beers and finally got the courage to tell him I liked his sweater. So I walked up and said "Hey man, love your sweater!" He replied with "Thanks! Do you want it?" We then had a short conversation about how I would feel weird about taking is sweater and he explained that he was trying to get rid of all his sports related clothing. At the end of the night we ran into eachother again and he proceeded to take off his shirt and give it to me. It was awkward, hot and awesome all at the same time. Hahaha!

Works real good and they've made improvements to it lately. You can side scroll to pick the bit rate thats works best, check your presets, etc.

Around here, not much chance, about people "laying off" with the needling (the hair shirt). Grant himself is the best (or worse, pick one) needler, exaggerator and joker, and people around here tend to follow his lead, more or less, or not at all perhaps -- but many do.

So it's not likely that juicy, "laugh at him" subjects will stay down.

Your right about the shows, but you'd be surprised what the ED at the Grand Sierra Resort and a few of the smaller dive clubs bring in. Hollerado: I tweeted them for info on the LA show Saturday and got a response.  Don't see it listed anywhere though.

@javajava - James, if I wasn't recovering from my "procedure", I'd be hoofing it for Reno, as I really want to see Hollerado.  Strange, however, that their website lists only the Reno show, but they are in SF tomorrow.

You ought to come visit your mom and go to the City to see some shows.  Next on my agenda is (maybe) next Friday when Elliott Brood and The Pack A.D.  Then STW on Monday here.  I'll probably skip Islands on the 13th, but Rose Cousins will be up in Sutter Creek on Saturday the 24th, and Kathleen Edwards/Hannah Georges is at The Independent in SF on the 31st!

And Lindi Ortega?  She was here in Sacramento at the Torch Club last November!  What a voice!  And I can vouce that MusicSoop has a thing for those ruby red lips.

Re: Hollerado in San Francisco - they are one of four bands, listed third in the line up.  The other acts are Imperial Teen, 20 Second Loop, and Giggle Party.  Show is sold out.

Would have to be my fingerless gloves, or as a co-workers calls them, my hobo-gloves which were given to me roughly three years ago by a friend who splurged at the dollar store and they're still going strong, mustard stains and all!  The only thing that I dislike about spring is trying to figure out when I should put my gloves away for another year.

@Steph - I've seen Sloan 5 times, and love their shows.  One of the best things about their shows is that everyone knows the words to the songs.  I can't wait for them to come back to California.  Another fun thing about them is that their catalog is so huge, you never hear the same songs each show.

I'm not a belt buckle type. My favourite belt is a narrow nylon camping belt with a small slip buckle. Big belt buckles make me think I should be wearing western shirts, jeans and cowboy boots.

I'm with John on this one, but I totally understand where Steph's coming from.

I'm short, so people ALWAYS thought I was way younger than I actually was.  But now that I don't look so youthful anymore, everytime I get ID'd I get so excited! 

You are now probably having some of the best times of your life, are free of female facial hair and don't yet have an over 30 belly.  All of these things are fantastic.  Enjoy it while you can.

Does anyone get nervous when they hear sirens in songs? 

@Steph. I am with you. I'm 22 and I dunno, sometimes I get treated like I'm stupid just because of my age.

it continues the older you get.  There will always be someone who's older than you and therefore thinks that they know more...but the number of people older than you does diminish over time, so it becomes less frequent. I think people just like to one up each other by nature.

At my office there are people ranging in age from 22-80 years old, so there is always someone and wiser (except for the resident 80 year old)

I just saw that on April 7, John K. Sampson and the Provincial Band and Shotgun Jimmie will be at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. 

I had a grand ol' talk with a youngster last week. Permaculture Sask held an art show and sale as a fundraiser/social activity. One of our members is an artist so she put it all together, and it was her boyfriend I got yakking with because he had the music playing via his rdio account.

He was listening to Grimes, so I started talking to him about Cocteau Twins, who he'd never heard of before. And Gotye (Peter Gabriel), and a couple of others. He was quite excited to learn about this stuff, which doesn't always happen (Steph, you're kind of an exception there, too).

It only got a little tense when the subject turned to Arcade Fire. But then we got on to our mutual dislike of Apple, so it was all good

I'm 23 - 24 in a couple of weeks - and I still get asked for my ID every now and then.  I always take it as a compliment!

I've never really had that feeling of being perceived as stupid because of my age though... maybe that's because I'm such a smart ass all the time.      

@javajava - Looking forward to meeting you at the STW show.  Incidentally, they were scheduled to play Reno last year, the day after playing in Eugene.  I talked Tyler out of driving that route as that's a lot of lonely miles in California's snowy northeast.  But I'm sure they'll get there some day!

@GL - I talked Tyler out of going from Eugene to Reno - in early March - because we had a stormy winter last year with LOTS of snow.  There is almost no freeway on that route, but crosses some of California's emptiest land.  This is the area that I go camping every summer.  The time would have been tight to do it in one day in good weather, but in bad?  No way.  Too much chance of putting it in the ditch due to ice and snow, and suggested that they should have played Sacramento, then Reno.  That way, its freeways all the way.  But I did tell Tyler that what they'd proposed would have been fine during the summer.
