I've got to say the stream is much better today. Yesterday I was getting little periodic breaks. Not today. Excellent sound quality today. Good job team!

Depends on how the team is thinking about releases. They can birth an elephant and not release until they think they've hit every point on the list that they want to implement.

If they want to push small, incremental releases out, they could be watching this and deciding to push a release that just fixes auto-update of comments first because that's the thing that's keeping people on the old site the most.

then they can go on and push incremental releases of some of the other things, as frequently as every week if the change is small enough to do it.

so, yeah, people repeating that the reason they're here on the old site and not on the new site is because the comments not auto-updating is a show stopper may have some effect. Might get tiring to read about if your'e a regular, but I haven't seen anyone really complaining about it.

krib, we were informed yesterday that some fixes are going to be quick but others, such as autorefresh, may take a little longer.

I suspect they're going to try and put out a beta 2.0 (whatev) before a more definitive, debugged version.

@Krib - When Michael Wynn was on Craig's show he indicated that fixing the Auto-Updating and post numbers was at the top of their list and they were working very diligently on fixing it.

A philosophical question for IT people...when does a beta become a release?

krib @ 65: "Never before its time" would be the noble answer. The grail.

The reality is that it's forever beta.

At least that's my optimistic view of things.

@Krib - I don't know the definitive answer to that question, but there has been a lot of focus on software companies releasing, not yet ready software. Microsoft caught a lot of flak over Vista. It was said that they released to users to do their beta testing, but sold it as a released product.

Philosophically I'd say, it becomes a release when the company decides they're ready to release to the market in general, rather than in limited release to a select group of beta testers.

It's a great deal more costly to produce software that is virtually bug free, and in terms of profitability, may not make sense.

@Garf.  Hi-o?

Definitely a downer album!  Most of Nick's album are pretty dark at times, but it's usually in contrast to the music which is often upbeat.  But yeah, Arm's Way is very dark w/o touching on the sadness.  This album, like all Islands albums, is very different.  I love that about Nick, never really does the same thing twice!

I'm inclined to agree that "never" is probably the correct answer, if there is a correct answer

Iceman throws an interesting wrench into it, though, by mentioning MS and their charging (full price, no less) for software that wasn't really up to snuff. I was thinking more about open source or internally developed releases. Vendor product stuff is pretty much at the point they think they can get away with charging for it

Make sure you use plenty of securities, though. You don't want someone hacking your signal and hijacking your system.

re: Beta.  are we talking google philosophy or the rest of the universe?

i'm in IT and i'm of the opinion that Beta should never be public.

i understand that it's a way of getting a ton of valuable data, and managing expectations though.

I've been using my Placebo as my "wallowing in it" band. They seem to work well for me

I'm very intrigued.

Two Points -

1) Don't release software that you know is Beta - Translation piece of crap

2) If the software is free, and people know it is beta, then all bets are off. The only restriction here is where there is potential to damage, or harm the system. If it merely doesn't work and inconveniences because it doesn't work as well as expected, then oh well, you didn't pay anything for it.

@Robin_m - Your comments remind me of the Seinfeld episode where George was interested in a girl and George told Jerry not to be funny around her. So he was all gloomy Gus, and she liked him because she thought he was dark and troubled.

I finally saw The Perms because I finally got my act together to see my friend's band The Noble Thiefs, and The Perms opened for them. The Noble Thiefs were a really, really high energy soul band, very good.

Anyways, I just discovered they are opening for Hey Ocean on the 28th.  I trust you are going?  You will really enjoy them, it will be a hot and sweaty show, for sure!

I am not to sure yet about the Hey Ocean show we will just get back on the Sunday night from our California road trip so we will have to see.
