Adele's winning streak continued on Tuesday night, as the British songstress added a pair of Brit Awards to her shelf. Just over a week after cleaning up with six statues at the Grammy Awards, Adele won for British female solo artist and British album of the year at the ceremony, held at the 02 Arena in London.
Despite Adele’s wins, the 23-year-old became a focus of controversy while accepting her award for the night's biggest prize, album of the year. After being interrupted by the evening's host, James Corden, Adele raised her middle finger in protest of being cut off in order to let Blur perform on another stage. The show was aired live on Britain's ITV. As The Guardian reports, the singer later apologized, stating:
"I'm sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me."
The night, however, was not Adele's alone. Also winning a pair of awards was the Suffolk-based singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who bested Noel Gallagher, James Blake and others for British male solo artist and also scooped British breakthrough act.
Other winners of the night include Coldplay (British group), Bruno Mars (best international male) and One Direction, whose single, "What Makes You Beautiful," bested Adele and Sheeran for single of the year.
The lone Canadian nominee of the night, Feist, lost to Rihanna for best international female.
