My parents remember where they were when John Lennon was shot in 1980. I quite vividly remember where I was when I first heard the news report that Kurt Cobain had killed himself. February 2012 gave this generation its marker when the legendary pop singer Whitney Houston died on the eve of the Grammy Awards.
As always, we said goodbye to far too many musicians, hosts, composers and producers of all genres this year. Here, CBC Music pays tribute to some of them.
