The triennial Honens International Piano Competition is happening right now in Calgary. It offers the richest prize in the world of international music competitions: one laureate will win $100,000 and a three-year career development plan.
Ten semifinalists from eight different countries are vying for the prize. Each of them performs a solo recital and a chamber music recital.

The finals take place Oct. 25 and 26. Over the two evenings, five finalists will each perform a concerto with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. You can watch live on CBC Music and join the online conversation using the hashtag #honens2012.
