You know who's one of the best people really is that Julie Doiron. She's done some impressive things like co-found Eric's Trip and Sappy Records and Sappyfest. She's won a Juno Award, was nominated for Polaris, and she received the Lifetime Achievement Bucky Award just last year. She's made amazing solo albums and she tours like mad, both on her own and with people like Mt. Eerie, Herman Düne, and as a member of Gordon Downie and the Country of Miracles. And, by my count, she's had three beautiful children too. Though she helped make Moncton, NB famous (to me) and has lived in Montreal and Sackville before, she's been in Toronto for about a year or so now. In anticipation of her set at Sappyfest later this month, I thought I'd have Julie on the BC and she suggested we go to Grapefruit Moon, maybe with her kids. Should be great!
Are you a fan of Julie Doiron? Any plans to see her live or pick up her latest album?
I have five Julie Doiron prize packs--consisting of a JD tote bag with one of her CDs inside--to give away to the first listeners who can correctly answer the following questions about today's show on the blog (if you guess in advance, a happy-go-lucky pony will have no idea who drank his mango juice but will observe that it's all gone somehow):
1. How do Julie’s kids refer to family friend, Michael Feuerstack of Snailhouse?
2. What song did Rosie sing at Sappyfest Rock Camp last year?
3. At one point, I say something that Ben responds to with “That would be crazy.” What is he responding to?
4. What distracts Rosie on the show at one point on a hot summer day in Toronto?
5. What record might Julie play in its entirety at Sappyfest this year?
The answer to these questions, and possibly others, will turn up on today's show. If you end up being the first person to post the winning answer on the blog (once!), please e-mail vish_khanna [at] cbcradio3.com with "Mama Needs a Job!" in the subject line, and your blog moniker and shipping address in your message.
Should I be inviting more or less children of guests on to the Breakfast Club? Where does the Breakfast Club need to stop next? Who needs to be on this show?
