Wrath of Khanna: The Breakfast Club with Julie Doiron! CBC Music - Free Streaming Radio, Videos, Songs, Concerts & Playlists

You know who's one of the best people really is that Julie Doiron. She's done some impressive things like co-found Eric's Trip and Sappy Records and Sappyfest. She's won a Juno Award, was nominated for Polaris, and she received the Lifetime Achievement Bucky Award just last year. She's made amazing solo albums and she tours like mad, both on her own and with people like Mt. Eerie, Herman Düne, and as a member of Gordon Downie and the Country of Miracles. And, by my count, she's had three beautiful children too. Though she helped make Moncton, NB famous (to me) and has lived in Montreal and Sackville before, she's been in Toronto for about a year or so now. In anticipation of her set at Sappyfest later this month, I thought I'd have Julie on the BC and she suggested we go to Grapefruit Moon, maybe with her kids. Should be great!

Good Morning!

Hey I am a Julie Doiron fan, and for once I can say YES I will be seeing Julie perform very soon! I in fact do have her latest album, and I have the Daniel, Fred, and Julie album as well.

Vish very soon you might be inviting your own children to the show. Regardless children have always been a hit on the Breakfast Club.

Breakfast will be my usual coffee, toast, and yogurt. I think I am a breakfast vegetarian now?

The kids sound adorable. What could possibly go wrong?

If the Breakfast Club ever goes on the road, the Overeasy in Calgary is fantastic. Also, Red's.

I had coffee and porridge for breakfast. It sounds dull, but my porridge recipe is epic, even though it lacks in both Baileys and whisky.

I really like the sound and stylings of Mrs. Doiron! and coincedentally, my AOTW featured her (Gord Downie and the Country of Miracles) so this Breakfast Club comes as a pleasent surprise. Looking forward to learning more about her and her exploits!

breakfast was some peaches n' cream oatmeal, a la microwave, with a splash of OJ. nutritious! although my grandmother would scoff at the idea of "instant oatmeal" (she is like the old woman in those old Oatmeal Crisp cereal commercials)

Peaches n' Cream oatmeal is the best!

Today's breakfast was hours ago but it was homemade saskatoon jelly and peanut butter on toast. A little bit of western canadiana.

As a kid i used to just eat all the maple and brown sugar sugar off the top while i was waiting for water to boil (I prefer that method to the microwave method) and then my oatmeal would suck because all the flavour would be gone.

They still make it though, you've got all the time in the world to eat that powdered goodness... Unless you live in Europe - they just don't make that stuff here... So I have to buy rolled oats in the UK and then use imported maple syrup and make it from scratch. IT IS NOT THE SAME!

Nah, I make my own. It's a form of sacrilege up here to buy instant oatmeal. For sure they'd never give me UK citizenship.

Hungarian oatmeal just seems wrong on many different levels.

Most everything to do with Hungarian Cuisine is wrong on so many levels.

Except that Elephant ears (Beaver Tails, Dough Boys what ever they are called in various locations) are served with sour cream, garlic and cheese instead of jam or sugar and it is soooo much better.

Her stage banter is amazingly frank, honest, and funny… at points like there's no internal gatekeeper to prevent any thought from spilling out. And I love that about her.

I spoke with her after a show at The Aeolian, just shortly after she got her Bucky Achievement Award and I told her how moved at how genuinely surprised and thankful for that award, and again she was touched.

And I like her music, especially because my daughter and I share a special bonding over I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day because when we have listen to a record at supper she will often pick the 'cat girl album' and we both dance to Consolation Priize.

And then Daniel, Fred & Julie, which is also a great album, will always remind me of the first time I met dawn.h as I bought it with her that day.

There's so much I like about Julie. What's not to like?

I've not seen any KD here... There might be some in the fancy expensive import store but my sister sends me the powder packages. It's not the same but it will do for a drunken/hungover snack.

Also she sends me the white cheddar packages from Superstore... That stuff is the BEST.

I've not tried it yet, as I throw up a little in my mouth every time I walk past it. There's a picture on the can of what the mac and cheese apparently looks like (which is revolting). Sick little noodles in some anemic yellow ooze. I'll snap off a picture next time I'm through.

Am going to have to get Mom to send some care packages over. You just can't beat the neon orange cheese powder.

Made 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, at Kettleman's on Bank Street (other locations?), pretty darned close to Lansdowne Park.

Oh, did I mention the bagels are baked in a wood-fired oven? Terrible for local creosote sufferers, yummy for the bagels.

There is no way that a Toronto-style bagel can win the comparison, at least for a Montreal bagel afficionado.
