 Last name = Buchmann, pronounced Buck-Man.  My most common nickname is Bucky but that seems to be used a fair bit around here.  I chose Buckit when registering for another forum where Bucky was already taken.  It has stuck as my forum alter ego whenever I find one where it's available.

my "blog" name and social media alias comes from a nickname one of my sisters gave me.  I don't mind it, but people always say "Kate-o" but it's actually more like "Cat-o".  Just setting that record straight....."Kate-o" makes me think of Kato Kaelen.....not something I love, but it is better than my highschool nickname "muff" so I'll take it.

When I was young my oldersister took to sometimes calling me Alsace Lorainne, or just Alsace as a nickname, so I use it as my blog name.  It is far better than her other nickname for me, Banonsk.  (Both have almost nothing to do with me real name)

I started using canadajanes as a login/username/etc when I moved from Chatham, ON to Brookings, SD. I was 16 and revelled in my Canadianness. I really didn't care about being Canadian until I moved to the US.

I picked my name from another site that is all about the clever names, sadly not that clever but true (I love to read and spent a lot of time and money at UVic to do so). I was going to go with jenno (first name, first initial of last name) for the blog but it was already taken and I didn't think of doing the last name thing (somewhat unpronounceable!). There are so many Jennifers out there it's a bit silly but I have made my peace with it.

Ah, TheRadioHead, chosen on a whim many years ago because I was a fan of Radio Head, and all forms of radio are a big part of my life.  If I had known I'd be married to to for so long I might have chosen differently, but like in a marriage it's become a part of me and I'm good with it.

I went and saw Terry McBride give a workshop on the future of music distribution on Saturday, and he spoke at length about using social media in future distribution.  It lead to an interesting conversation with the friend I was with who is a musician in her 20's.  She told me that there is already a backlash in some of her generation to dependency on social media and putting all of your life out there.  I suspect that that circle will close even more tightly yet.

yes, that was a bit of a generalization.  I saw the Cee Lo Green performance.  Real instruments , but it's all in the lyrics, yea.   Lots of rock is starting to sound the same too, so it's no different ( I don't hold any bias.  I do prefer Rock though).  Take the Sam Roberts track (no offense Sam Roberts fans).  I feel it sounds quite like the rest of his stuff, but some people can only do so much, I suppose.

And.. yeah you're totally right about your "getting people to like music" argument.  Except for the set up.  That's what radio stations are so good at.  They get people jazzed up for the new single even before they hear it.

As an example, I could've played Boders any old Fucked Up song to play for him the very first time.  Chances are he wouldn't get past the screaming or whatever that is so obviously the forefront of the music.  INSTEAD, I went out of my way to find a song that had screaming to a minimum and catchiness to the maximum (I think I played him Crooked Head). 

Basically, there's just as much honus on the pusher to "set it up" as there is on the receiver to enuj
