Best show I saw this year was this past weekend: Primus at the Greek Theatre at UC Berkeley.......oh, wait, not a Canadian band or a Canadian show. How inconsiderate of me on CBC's birthday. I'm going to put my vote in for 100 Dollars/Elliott Brood.  Yes, it is a combined vote that I feel is legit because they played an amazing tour together.  I saw their openning show for this tour and was floored by both sets for different reasons.  My kind of show.

I think it's time to consider Hawksley Workman. He's not only developed a large body of work, but he's a produce for others' work as well, and he's been at it a while.

I have had times where I'm listening to an album and think "who produced this? It's got a 'big' sound to it, almost like a modern-day Steve Lillywhite" and, invariably, when I look up the credits, it's Hawksley Workman.

The crokinole board that I got several months after Grant "awarded" it to me has remained in its shipping box ever since.  Because it was personalized and signed by Two Hours Traffic, The Danks and Molly Rankin, I knew I'd never actually play with it.  Belonged on the wall as art.  But the house was for sale and personal items like that were discouraged.  However, when Rebbey and KristiArbo visited a couple of weeks ago, I pulled it out to show them, and since the house is off the market now - and I have a certain Vancouver band coming to risk it all again at my place this weekend - I put a hanging bracket on the back, and have hung it up on the wall - where it should have been all along.  Makes me smile every time I come down the stairs and see it.

Incidentally, I have investigated getting a crokinole board that I can actually play on!

I can't even begin to tell you how special that night was. It was a magical setting in a small church, and Dan and the band even borrowed choir robes. It may go down as one of my favourite all time shows.
