As well
as songs about weekends, I’m equally fascinated by those “unofficial national
anthems.” Every country seems to have one, and Canada has them a plenty. Sure “Oh Canada”
is great, but some Canadian pride sure swells when Stan Rogers’ "Barrett’s Privateers"
gets belted out in a pub.
I also
think you could make a pretty great case for the entire canon of Stompin’ Tom
Conners. And this being a Saturday, and many of you planning a night out, I’m
sure a sing along of “Sudbury Saturday Night” might not be far off. And if you’ve
got some bingo money to blow, all’s the better.
On
tonight’s show my dramatic reading of a true Canadian classic… and unofficial anthem.
