Wild Light's "California on my Mind" and All-American Rejects' "Swing Swing" are some that come to mind.  And you already mentioned "Toxic". 

Non-musically, I love Olive Garden.  I KNOW.  I'm not trying to get an authentic Italian meal or anything, I just want some comfort food.  Leave me alone.

The odd Jonas Brothers song.  I know, I know...SOOOO bad...but.  My son listens to them.

And they have a few pretty good songs.  I also love Rob Zombie. 

Another one would have to be reading Cosmo magazine, and watching trashy stuff on slice.

Do old 80's tunes count as guilty pleasures, even if you grew up listening to them?

I'm not talking seriously guilty pleasures stuff, like Hall & Oates, but more Men Without Hats - would they count?

you can justify Take on Me, because it had a groundbreaking video - that whole animation & real life mix thing - totally counts as cool points. no guilty pleasures there.

i can't really think of any musical guilty pleasure. ace of base used to be, but not anymore. (in the sense that i kind of cringe now)

My guilt stems from everything I used to listen to with my dad when I was young. I am in love with Huey Lewis & The News, I know all the words to Ice Ice Baby, INXS makes me dance, I have an enjoyment of Gordon Lightfoot that many dont understand (I used to torture my old roommate with SUNDOWN)...

There are probaby more...and more embarassing ones.

My OWN GP is... Notorious B.I.G.  - I know the words to Hypnotize. It's a little sad.

My wife has a Burton Cummings recording of him doing Gordon Lightfoot singing Maggie May. He does a really good job of imitating Lightfoot

I think my knowledge of 90's dance music is either embarassing or amazing depending on who you are.

I was at The Racoon's Christmas party and some how I became the DJ, 90's music was the them and went from Soul Decision to TLC to Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch to my all time favourite: All Saints.

I never really dug Britney Spears or Christina or Jessica, although Mandy Moore was alright.  But for some reason, though I swear Pantera is the best band ever and Straight Outta Compton is one of my all time favorite albums and I spend way too much time discussing the finer points of Iron Maiden with my co-worker Joe, in the 90's I actually loved the music of M2M.  For those who aren't familiar, it's a tween girl duo from Scandanavia that sounds kind of like this.  I guess sometimes I gotta balance things out with super-happy sounding music.  Which is why my friends not only hate M2M but also Stakka Bo (Here We Go Again) and Gina G. (Oooh Ahh Just a Little Bit) and my Polka collection.

What's lame is how my pal did engineering on the Meatloaf album where he did a duet with Marion Raven from M2M and he didn't invite me to the sessions.  Boo!

Ah yes... I forgot Tupac.

You can find me, on occasion, tapping my toes to some 80s music, one-hit wonders from the 90s (like Sex and Candy, Bitch, etc.) and some Top 40 (like Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, etc.).

Although I do like some 90s and 80s music, I think the only really guilty pleasure I have is probably ABBA.

Or maybe it's just my guiltiest pleasure; I mean, Savage Garden isn't exactly non–guilty pleasure territory.

My guilty pleasure is that one new show "My life as Liz" on MTV. I know.

I don't like the idea of "guilty pleasures" when it comes to music. How come people are supposed to feel guilty about music that they honestly like? Unless it's Skrewdriver and you're Jewish I don't see any reason to feel like you broke a moral code or something.

Oooh... that band had some catchy songs.  Not saying anyone should listen to them, but the guy knew how to write a hook.

Music's very much a "to each his own" thing.

I think I've generally avoided stuff on the radio because it gets played and replayed so much that it drives me crazy. In my younger days, when there was no R3 and I was in my car a lot more (so listening to the radio a lot more) I would get very tired of stuff, even stuff I liked.

I didn't mind Huey Lewis but never bothered buying any of his stuff because I heard it so much it seemed pointless to waste any money on it.

My wife likes to accuse me of being elitist and going out of my way to avoid mainstream music. I agree with her totally, because it gives me control of what I hear and when. And besides, those people being played all over the airwaves don't need my money - there are enough other people willing to spend money on them.

Boombastic! Great, now I will be singing this allll day. If I ever get married (again) I will consult with you as to how to create possibly the most fantastic DJ set ever. I'm thinking a little "Wiggle It" to get things started... perhaps a remix of "Mr. Vain", some KLF and a little Crystal Waters.. Okay, I'll stop now. This may not be healthy, plus I am feeling elderly.

Haha no denying. The hooks were there, and if you can separate their music from their political belief than they are pretty great. 

Really, I just want to leave the term guilty pleasure to things like snorting coke off a prostitutes thigh.

this is a guilty pleasure now, too? seriously, what CAN you do nowadays without the man trying to make you feel ashamed? i'm moving to Europe.

hm. I'd have to say hot chettos, cheap beer, hall and oates (trust me .. my son and I boogie down to some h&o) and don't tell my work (frito-lay) but I love love love Better Made's sweet onion kettle chips.. yum!

Hmmm.  This artist been mentioned three times so far in the blog, so how guilty can it be?  But you can blame Monica Skorupski (MoniSki) for it. 

When Monica posted her adorable video Christmas Card up for all of us, when it popped up on the viewer, I clicked on it so it went right to the YouTube player.  And when it was over, on the right side of the YouTube screen there were other suggested videos.  On the very top of that list was a video from an artist that I’d read something about in the San Francisco Chronicle.  Seemed to have heard some rather controversial things about her.  I figured, “what the heck”, and clicked over to give it a watch.

The video in question was “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga.  Only once before had a video ever left me staring at the screen in amazement after it was over, and that was in 1981 with The Go-Go’s and “Our Lips Are Sealed” in the first few months of MTV.  But besides “Bad Romance” a real over the top video, it was the great pop music that hooked me.  And I enjoyed the choreographed dance moves.   She may be very controversial, but there is no denying that she is clearly a talented performer, and can really sing.

However, it is frightening to consider that Stefani, I mean, Gaga, is the same age as my daughter.

Honestly, I nearly dreamed about a movie that sounded that good. I can only hope.

Can anyone tell me whether it's on iTunes?  If yes, I may just watch it tonight.  I'm at work, and don't have iTunes, so I can't look in the iTunes store.

Once in a while, I'll pick up the latest Anita Blake book from the library.

I don't even like them much any more, I just want to see if they've improved at all.

For those who are unfamiliar with them, the first few books in the Anita Blake series were pretty decent urban fantasy (with vampires).  The later books are, well, poorly written porn.  But I'm told the latest one has fewer sex scenes.

Actually, vampire books in general are a guilty pleasure of mine.  But not the ones that are basically romance novels with vampires.

Just about anything he does, but "Has Been" is shear ironic genius.  He has been mocked for 40 years,  but the the joke has actually  been on us.

I made it up to Armond the Vampire as well. And then skipped on to Vittoria the Vampire and even read the Mayfair Witches books. They're all kind of the same... like tasty bubblegum for the brain, but tedious after a while...

that Ireland trip sounds like fun. I was in Dublin for a conference once many years ago (2000). It was a neat city, but I never got out to see any countryside.

We had quite the winter last year.  I was prepared this year for another year full of snow and -10,which is unheard of out here! It didnt happen though. Rain instead.

Yup Vic is expensive.  Thats why I dont live there.  But I can drive up there, its not far.  2 hours.  I live in the sticks, where its cheaper and quieter.  But if this rain doesn't stop soon my house might float away.  I guess my backyard is that swimming pool I always wanted.  Its not heated though.
