I must meet Dolly Parton. Though there are a lot of things I’d like to do before I croak, when it comes to music, meeting Dolly Parton and seeing her perform live is high on my list.

Sure there are a lot of things we’d like to do, but when it comes to music, WHAT’S ON YOUR MUSICAL BUCKET LIST?

Learn how to play an instrument? Be a Great Lake Swimmer? Tour with Feist? See Rufus & Martha perform together?

I checked off a whole bunch of stuff off my bucket list last year, or recently at least! (for seeing live bands anyways.)

Bob Dylan

Neil Young

The Hold Steady

The Flaming Lips

TV on the Radio

Drive By Truckers

The Black Keys

The White Stripes

Kanye West

Arcade Fire, Wilco, and Jay Z are all that remain. I have a front row center ticket to Wilco in a few weeks, and Arcade Fire promised to tour again... so I think I'm set! Now just to get to Coachella for Jay

10) Have Burton Cummings sing a song about me

9) Same time, see Burton acknowledging that his mustache is where his superpowers are hidden

8) Live my own "Almost Famous" story, tour some band nobody has ever heard of, but apparently has a rockstar following, and write an article about them

7) Have a musician say "Hey! Aren't you...?" Oh wait, that's happened before!!!!

6) Be interviewed on radio/tv again for some random reason (most recently was Radio Canada)

5) Discuss hockey with a famous musician.. let's say... Sam Roberts

4) Have a concert in my living room, let's say.. John K Samson, Novillero and a few others from Winnipeg's music elite

3) Travel to minimum of 3 different countries JUST for a concert/festival, let's say.. USA, Australia, and France as a start

2) Win a Grammy. But since that'll never happen, be at an awards show afterparty (WCMAs '09 excluded)

1) Sample beer and poutine with Les Trois Accords

And I'll add one more just for the heck of it, see TheRadioHead at a Joel Plaskett concert (that'll NEVER happen!) (Sorry Pat!)

This is what I got off the top of my head:

- Get to the Dawson City Music Festival

- Go to SxSW

- Go to NxNE

- Play the piano competently

- Learn how to compose music

- See Destroyer play Bay of Pigs live (does he play it live?)

- Hit my head on a toilet to invent a flux capacitor, buy a delorean, swindle some terrorist, go back in time to see DFA1979 & the Unicorns and possibly accidentally stop my parents from meeting then have to get them back together

i posted in prev thread about today being a half sick day..i foolishly went into work when i really had no business doing so.

music list wise, i hope to see radiohead live

and see a show in europe by a canadian artists...say in the next 1 to 2 years when Dan Mangan releases his next great album and tours like crazy overseas again...

I'd like to one day say I've been to music fests from all around Canada..ie, Dawson City, Rifflandia, WFF, Hillside, Sappfest...the more the better to my mind..

@Alex - I don't know how I haven't realized that you are a huge BTTF fan...have I told you that Steve owns a DeLorean?

I've never really thought much about this before, but let's see what I can come up with on the fly. . .

(in no particular order)

•See Two Hours Traffic Live (but I woudn't mind an encore of that one :) )

•Sing a song that's dear to my heart and not many people have heard, on stage (probably something Hannah Georgas or THT)

•Learn an instrument(maybe pick the Cello back up, or learn guitar or piano)

•Time travel to the 1960s and see the Beatles live (yes, this is a joke, but would be very awesome nonetheless)

•Have somebody sing me Close up to Me(Two Hours Traffic)

And that's all I've got for now.

If you check my FB I put up a pic of DTV OTA using the antenna I made the other night. Works like a dream. Which means i need to pick up an ATSC tuner card for my computer..

Serious? I've never actually seen a DeLorean in person! That's awesome. I hope he has a flux capacitor in the back.

I'm not a like a crazy huge BTTF fan but I do love those movies and they came out during some of my most impressionable years, well more part II and part III as the first one came out when I was 1 but the original is still the best of course.

You can add Radiohead to my list. I've heard it described as "a religious experience".

And while I'm stealing stuff from your list, I'd want to see some CanCon overseas. That'd be great. My buddy was in Australia a few years ago, and was a day late for seeing a Joel Plaskett show. He was ready to rider pride it up.

But since overseas probably isn't an option any time soon, I seriously want to do SXSW. And I seriously might want to do it this year. I know MusicSoop's in.

Anybody else want to go? Can I get a WITNESS?!

In terms of bands I'd love to share the stage with before I croak... Blue Rodeo, the Tragically Hip - any quintessential Canadian band - in hopes that the association would make my band quintessential, as well. Not to mention, the combined height of Jim Cuddy and myself is about 17".

I actually know a car that is going. They're looking for 2 more people to go down with them.

I'm just unsure if I want to spend 20 hours in the car with my ex-girlfriend and her friend(s).

however, let's do it. I mean flippin PAVEMENT is playing.

yeah, he's a crazy movie kid. No flux capacitor yet, but i'm sure there eventually will be. That and ghostbusters left a big impression on him...he's got the full outfit, exact replica proton pack and all..

he loves taking it out for any reason...should i let him know you want to go for a spin?

Elliot Brood - saw them at NXNE and they blew my mind!

Matthew Barber - i've missed him 3 times! He played at The Great Hall in Toronto the same night that I was there for my sister's wedding...had considered sneaking downstairs to catch a set...but then the wine kicked in ;)

Wow. To be on stage with either of those bands would just be something else!

If you, Jim, and Joel Plaskett were there together, combined heights would be about 35'. Give or take a foot.

I've avoided it all along 'cause it's too hot but I might have to actually go this year. The lineup is pretty amazing.

At the moment the bucket list would include seeing my fav Canadians who haven't played in LA lately (Or ever??) like Matthew Barber, United Steel Workers of Montreal, Hexes and Ohs, and Library Voices. Hopefully if I make it to Coachella, SXSW, and Hillside this year I won't need a bucket list anymore.

hahhaha...I'd wonder about that sucker being able to get up to that speed...they are so damn heavy and the power under the hood really doesn't match the awesome stainless steel look..but fun as hell to drive around in none the less..

I am in bed sicker than I can recall for years (I actually had a fever dream last night where Grant was chasing me through Home Depot, crazy eh?)

So my fevery brain can't put together a list of any sort. I do know that one thing I wish for is to find a musical going friend who would say "Yes, I would love to go do that, and let me pay for it as well" to ANYTHING I wanted to see.

I wasn't sure if it was just a joke but there was an American Dad involving DeLoreans where he's says something to the effect of "But this thing only goes up 88 mph!"

Although, if that is it's top speed that's not completely awful as that's like ~180kmph right?

I would certainly prefer to fly. But I would be willing to drive there to see the dead weather, pavement, THEM CROOKED VULTURES! and oh so many many more. Maybe we could get hold of a van and get a few people together. That way you could avoid the awkwardness of the ex. But you would have to put up with the awkwardness of driving to cali with some girl you've never met before...

Cool. I think I'm in agreement flying is so much better. But it could be a great road trip. I could probably get a pretty slick deal on a van if we had enough people.

Them Crooked Vultures and Pavement, are definitely tops on my list for stuff to see (if I was to go). Ticket prices are kinda stupid expensive though, and I bet they're selling like crazy.

When is that weekend anyways?

i've been incredibly lucky with seeing my favourite bands live... of my top four faves, i've seen three live multiple times. most of my "bucket list" just consists of seeing certain bands, some in specific locations. in no particular order:

- See The Dears play a show in Montreal (preferably in an intimate venue, commodore or smaller)

- See Sigur Rós play a show in Iceland (preferably in an outdoor venue... an Icelandic equivalent of Malkin Bowl)

- See a Broken Social Scene Super Show with all the members, playing both BSS songs and songs from the various satellite bands.

- See a Swan Lake show where they play their own songs and each others.

(Monsters of Folk did this exact format for their shows last year, playing songs from all the artists catalogues, and it's how I've always wanted to see supergroup/collaboration play)

- See The Flaming Lips in Oklahoma.

- See Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds... anywhere. (Only one of my top 4 not seen live)

The rest of my "need to see" list are mostly international artists who don't realize there are more Canadian cities than Toronto & Montreal. Porcupine Tree & My Morning Jacket top that list.

i've been tinkering with my own bucket list in my head, hasn't made it to paper/computer yet. i haven't really thought of a musical bucket list, though.

i can already scratch off seeing leonard cohen, neil young, pearl jam, & radiohead off my list. and, yes, seeing radiohead on stage from maybe 40 feet away, is as near a religious experience as i would imagine one to be. to top that experience off, i spent a week in new york (first time in the states) with one of my closest, best friends.

i think i would add:

-traveling to b.c. to see shane koyczan

-see tom petty

-re-learn the piano. i played for 14 years, i know it's all locked away in my head. i just need to find the key..

-learn to play the guitar. most of my friends can whip out a guitar and sing. all i can do is sit and take pictures.

-oh, learn to sing. i think i sing ok, but i've been terrified to sing around anyone to actually find out.

-if i put sing on an album, that means i'll have to submit a file to the mountains & the trees...

-play in a band on stage in front of a bunch of people.

life is short, friends. get crackin!

as far as i know, they don't. they started before enemy mine they wouldn't and i haven't heard anything since... but one can dream. after seeing MoF, that is exactly how i want a Swan Lake show to go.

Not Canadian, but I once had a ticket to Soundgarden and ended up having to sell it...then they broke up! I hear they are touring again, so I'll have to try to get to that!

* Introduce a band like The Mountains & The Trees onstage at a huge music festival.

* Co-host Foodie Friday on Lanarama when the topic is bacon and beer and we grill bacon-wrapped listener suggestions. Hey, I'm no Hannah Georgas, but what the hell!

* See Shout Out Out Out Out live and get to play cowbell on 'Remember Me In Dark Times'.

* Have Julie Doiron buy ME drinks.

* See the Suede reunion show coming up.

* See the Lanarama R3 Trans-Canada Train Tour come to fruition.

1 - hug Dan Mangan next time I see him (feb 7 @ the habitat) - I'm just so frickin' proud of the guy and I'm in awe of his talent

2 - see a show at the Black Sheep Inn - I lived in Gatineau (right next to Wakefield) for 30 years and never checked it out

i saw shout out out out out and it was pretty epic. at a music festival, no less.

i have to give a shout out (har har) to radio 3 for introducing me to that band. i was incredibly bored with my music. so, via itunes, i downloaded random radio 3 podcasts. one of them featured shout out x4. i can't remember who hosted it, possibly grant, but he was talking about how he tried SO HARD to see this band and something would always happen to prevent it, and that this ONE TIME he was able to see them and how utterly excited he was. i had no idea who this band was, but i felt that excitement!

then a year or so later, i found out i was going to get to see this band for myself! i felt that excitement all over again.

and finally understood exactly what he was trying to say.

I may be the only person on this planet that has not seen Shout Out X 4. Much hope that 2010 will be the year. I know what you mean by "that excitement". I'll probably be reduced to a catatonic, jaw-on-the-floor, driveling idiot!
