Today’s Guests: Graham Wright, Jill Barber, Hannah
Georgas, Justin Rutledge
Jill Barber's Advice: play
Hannah Georgas' Advice: play
Back in 1960, jazz musician Steve Lacy recorded the
advice given to him by legendary jazz performer Thelonius Monk. Though a lot of the advice pertains to music (“Don’t
play everything (or every time); let some things go by”), it is memorable,
often comedic, and many parts pertain to all (“Whatever you think can’t be done,
somebody will come along and do it”). I’m
also happy to put a name to the phrase “Always leave them wanting more”.
This got me thinking about advice. It seems like we’re
always asking for some, know who to go to for ‘good advice’ and can find advice
columns in basically every magazine and newspaper.
WHAT'S THE BEST ADVICE YOU'VE BEEN GIVEN? Have you ever taken advice from a song? What musician do
you think would give you good advice?
Why?
