Apple recently won a class action lawsuit over possible
hearing loss caused by iPod use. Here’s the Coles Notes version: two guys (who
claimed they never suffered any hearing damage) were trying to prove that
someone potentially COULD suffer hearing damage because of iPod use and the
design of their trademark ear buds. All
in all, they thought that Apple should provide better headphones, better
disclosures and award them some monetary damages. The judge didn’t buy it.
This has had me thinking a lot about headphones, volume and
my music collection (for the record, I don’t like ear buds).
Though ‘loud music’ technically refers to volume alone, I
have recently been going through what I like to call my ‘loud music phase’ (referencing
my recent uploads of some old punk rock records, and revisiting Lisa’s All Metal
Podcasts). As a gal who usually listens to pop and electronica on my walk
to work (I think it makes me walk faster…and as I’m always running late, it’s a
good thing), I must say it’s been refreshing to mix it up.
However, all this awareness of volume has reminded me to pay
more attention to that little knob on my iPod. I like to listen to my ‘loud’ music loudly. I suppose I should get my ears tested.
Coming up on the show today, some louder tracks from
Priestess, F*cked Up, Nasty On and more!
