Like many, I've been quite distraught over the recent disaster in Haiti. It’s not only sad that this country has had to endure more pain, but that it took this earthquake to get them some of the support they have needed for decades.  Haiti has a very special place in my heart, as I've been to the country three times over the last decade volunteering with the Missionaries of Charity.

Many Canadians have strong ties with Haiti, with an estimated 100,000 Haitians living in Quebec alone.  Our very own Governor General, Michaëlle Jean, is a Haitian immigrant who came to Canada with her family at the age of 11.  Though are also many Haitian/Canadian musicians, one of particular note is The Arcade Fire's Regine Chassagne, whose family immigrated to Canada from Haiti during dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier's rule from 1971 to 1986.

I'm not sure how you've chosen to react to this disaster, but there has been a huge response from the music community.

HAS AN ARTIST EVER HELPED MAKE YOU AWARE OF WORLD ISSUES? Have you ever helped a cause based on a musician's encouragement or promotion to donate? Any events we've missed?
