I love that list of words to banish. Of course you can't really banish words but you can opt not to be a moron and use a word like chillaxin' or bromance.

You know I have never understood the attitudes of some people in this country regarding hockey. Personally I think the more countries that win at international events the better it is for the sport as a whole. Wouldn't it be nice if hockey were more international like soccer?

Hopefully Stevie Rayk or Crai Gnorris can shed some light on them. The only name I remember being linked to KCS that is still around playing is Nathan Lawr. He's doing his own stuff, as well as playing with Kate Maki (who I believe he is sweet on) and then I think he played with Ox off an on.

But the real braintrust behind KCS… did they stay in the music, Craig or Steve?

I would love to see a reunion of KCS as that had to be one of the best live shows EVER! Or is it one of those that lives in my memory as the best but it was early on in the show going days so there wasn't too much to compare to at that point.

Maybe we should dump manure on Jake Allen's neighbour's lawn, that's kind of our thing.  We like to blame people that probably don't deserve.

KCS put on an amazing show!

Saw them a couple times in London, On. Both at The Embassy. The bar is burned down and they don't play.

I'd love a KCS reunion. The Embassy, I'm fine with out – it was sketch at times (by at, I mean all)

I saw them and the Gandharvas  one new years eve. It was around A Soap Bubble and Intertia and everyone was all about the Gandharvas, but I think KCS stole the show.

I've seen where Craig and Pedro work.

They actually work inside the water cooler.

Or a water cooler refill bottle sized office, that's more like a people-quarium ant farm. I honestly think the Radio3 office in Toronto is really a social experiment being conducted by the CBC Tribunal of Power (Mansbridge, Mesley and Strombo).

Listening to R3 on the way to work.

Downloaded the CBC app for the iPhone my daughter got me for Christmas, and for the first time, streamed R3 as I rode into downtown on the bus.  Pretty cool.  But there is no blog, and its amazing how much this blog is part of the total R3 experience.

Only real complaint is that you have to stay on the CBC app or else the audio stream stops.  Going over to Facebook to chat with MikeV stopped it.  At least I think that's the issue.  I don't think Mike had anything to do with the loss of audio.  (Did you Mike?)

The explanation: Craig has convinced Pedro that the floor to ceiling window walls that makeup their (finger quotes) office, are one way mirrors, that view out and not in.

Which also explains his abnormal fear that someone is going to jump him every morning as he makes his way to his desk despite being able to see inside as he enters.

From the PDF research report thingy (page 13):

The SPPA has tracked adult attendance at certain“benchmark” activities since 1982. If a survey respondent reported going to any jazz, classical music, opera, musical, play, or ballet performance,or to an art museum or gallery during the 12 months ending May 2008, the individual was counted as an attender of a benchmark activity. (Attendance at elementary or high school performances was not counted.)

So they've been tracking this since 1962, and the newest type of music they track is jazz?  I attended at least one show most months last year, but the only "benchmark activity" I saw was one fringe play.

It's interesting that people are going to less classical music, opera, and ballet, but I'm not sure you can extrapolate from their seven categories to all live art.

That song, I am working on sorting out who it reminds me of… I wanna say Guided by Voices or Girls Against Boys or I am not even sure… first I have to dig through my old circa 93-95 CMJ Cd's and see if I can't find the song it makes me think of.

To date myself: My Sharona, will always be from the "Get The Knack" record my brothers had. And not the song made famous again by the Reality Bites OST. In the same way that some people thought Baby, I Love Your Way was a song by Big Mountain and not Frampton.

i have the same gripe with the app about it cutting out if you go to anything else.

also, you can check the blog, but you have to use safari, which will quit the cbc app.. and you can only read the blog. you can't post or listen. iphone doesn't support flash or other some such.

annoying, but i'm still glad to be able to listen on the move.

It also makes great anti-freeze. 

not to pick on Moe, but I'm with abolishing "app".  Every morning, the CBC Radio news man tells me that they are twittering and streaming live and I can just download the free CBC Radio App, and I fill in under my breath "...lication".  Application.  It's an application, right?

Why not call them lications? 

indeed, we use it because it's what it seems to be called.  what can you do.  i can whine on a blog, it seems.  and mutter "lication" under my breath, and "and me" when people incorrectly say "and I".  okay, i'm going away and working now.  happy days to you all.

this is off topic, but sorta on topic because I'm leaving the stream to listen to my friend talk on the radio here to talk about privatization.  Very interesting debate for sure.

Maybe you guys in other provinces can chime in.  Do you like dealing with private companies or would you rather have the Crowns like we do here in Sask? (SaskTel, SaskPower, SaskEnergy, etc etc )

I hope everyone sees the irony of prefixing posts addresses to people with @, while at the same time talking about words that we're tired of, like "tweet"

which is why I've been on a campaign on the R3 blog for some time to use "dear" when addressing people on the blog. I tried just using the person's name w/out the @, but then Grant misread one of my lines and attributed it to the person I was addressing, so I thought I needed to do something different.

So I opted for the good-ol' snail-mail type greeting of "dear" (anyone remember those days?)

I like it. I think it lends a certain classy tone to the blog.

I haven't campaigned to heavily on TCNH because I'm often in meetings in the morning and unfortunately have to miss it. So those of you who are around for the afternoon shows are probably tired of hearing it, but I notice a few of you have adopted it, at least when talking to me, and I appreciate that!

I think there are some upsides to competition, which requires privatization.  But privatization without competition is pretty short on upsides.  And that seems to be what we often get when things are privatized.

But pretty much, I don't understand WHY we need to do this.  It's not like these Crown companies aren't profitable, they make hundreds of millions that goes right back into the province every year. 

Who'd give that away without any tangible difference in service?  If I lived in a rural community I'd be pretty ticked off if my services cost 3x more because I'm not in a priority area.  I guarantee you that'd be the case, who other than the Province would operate in areas at a loss, just because it's the "right" thing to do.

and that's what's kept the crowns around in Sask, because of the need to service the rural areas.

and it's ironic (and I looked it up - it's ironic and not paradoxical) that the very people who benefit from the existence of these crowns are the ones that give a majority to the gov't that wants to eliminate them

You're really right.  I mean there's no companies fighting over providing service to any cities outside of Regina and Saskatoon, really.  So what's the point of this?

Another shady thing that's going on is that these Crowns are being instructed to stop providing service in some areas to allow for other competition.  Service that IS there, just turned off to allow for other companies to get their foot in the door.  I can see the argument that these companies need help, but it's not like anyone is getting bad service at any of these companies.  Not GREAT service, but not bad and never horrible.  That's fine by me.

What if I use a colon instead of a comma after your name, which makes it business letter–style rather than personal letter–style?

"Dear" has at least two meanings.  It can mean someone or something dear to you, or it can be a formal salutation in a letter.  In some parts of the world, I believe it also means expensive.

I just don't understand how farmers vote sometimes.  They're obviously very intelligent people to make a living at what they do, but when it comes to politics... I dunno.  The Sask Party isn't exactly looking out for them but they sure love voting for them.  or the conservatives, though neither is really after their best interests it seems anyways.

i probably do use "dear" more often than i realize. i do try to start letters with "hi" or something similar. i tend to write how i speak, which is not formal at all. especially to friends.

i use @ here (and sometimes on facebook) because, to me, it's pretty close to instant messaging. it also gets to the point. "this comment is for this person but everyone can read it". (yeah, i also use twitter a lot, so sort of got in the habit..)

i admit to using fail and FTW far too often. my usage tends to more poke fun, though. not that it makes it any better...
