I feel like I've been gone for months as well!  Wait, I have!  :)  I had a great trip across North America, and met a lot of great Radio 3 people.  I missed pretty much all news over the last month, so I'm playing catch up there.  Apparently Tiger Woods is bad now, and flying sucks.  What else did I miss?

It feels like it was the last decade since I've posted on here.

With this whole being back at work /slash/ being allert by 10am, I am still sort of lost. For the past 12 days, it was around this time I was wondering when I'd get out of my PJ's.

That said, it's god to have you back, Craig. While Alscher and Wright did great jobs, it's good to have you back on air!

But, listen, when did Vish change his name to Tariq? At least he's putting way more energy into his show now. I feel like his new name, albeit as hard to pronounce as "Vish", might be the dhawning of a new Khanna?

@jivemama: congrats on the new job! I work a gov't level job here, I think, and everything is blocked except for CBC as well.  All of the Missing Links usually result in an error message: BLOCKED

I read somewhere in an article that Yoko Ono would have no problem singing Beatles kareoke songs, but if that is new, I have no idea. And I won't be blogging to TCNH anymore from work.

I am not afraid to say I was not sad to hear of the curlie-cue stache's demise, Martin.

It was actually starting to scare me. You were starting to look like someone who might carry an unwrapped block of cheddar with a deer antler handle buck knife embedded in it. You know, the kind of person that ate pemican by a whale blubber lamp, while writing soliloquies with a grouse feather quill…

Someone who might jump into a hot tub with nothing on but a Radio3 toque, a smile, and that block of cheese, you're whittling away at.

It was a real snowy weekend, but Fredericton got off much easier than other parts of the province it actually rained yesterday, and today its +1. I am sure the Gods of Winter are just toying with me though.

What's this about government jobs not blocking radio 3? Hmm... I'd advocate for streaming radio to be unblocked, but I'd be afraid to lose the blog too... darn governement!

@mikegibbons (33): I was following you tweets and had imagined that if you had an implanted tracking device, your travels this holiday season would have been like watching the elk migration. Are you in fact traveling with elk? And did the Tunder Bay get hit with much fluffy white stuff?

I'm pleased to report the toque holds up surprisingly well in man soup.  I <3 the R3 toque!

No elk, but my Brother-in-law did spot a Bald Eagle eating a dead deer shortly after crossing the border into the States.  Makes you feel like... freedom.

Seriously though, if we made trips to Timmins and Windsor, we'd hit the bounds of populated Ontario over the past two weeks.  Crazy.

There's about a foot or two worth of snow here, and the place we went skiing was hit with 22" the week before we got there.  But I wouldn't say there's an obscene amount of snow yet... just an obscene amount of cold.  Highs of -15 for the past couple of days (-25 with the wind chill).  HIGHS!

Do you still use the Julian calendar?

Let's just say your landlord has had a lot of shoveling back here too. We got probably 8-10 inches over the last few days.

And speaking of getting 8-10 inches… Martin's Man Soup would make for a good band name. Can I get a Hi-O?

Hey, for Christmas, my brother in common law got us a wireless network thingy, which means I can stream R3 at home on the iPod I won from R3 last March.  How cool is THAT?  Yes, I'm slow with the technology thing.

And also, over Christmas, I got the true pleasure of meeting Martin Suckamc Cathrae, and I got all kinds of R3-endorsed gifts from family, including the CBC retro shoulder bag, the John Crossingham book for kids, Learn to Speak Music (my conclusion: more books for adults should have funky illustrations... I am LOVING reading this), and even a crokinole board, sent all the way from Winnipeg to Ottawa on the Greyhound. 

And now, I will work.  Do your trick caffeine, please do your trick.  Happy day, all.

Re Vish, I don't know, he stopped calling me when I was still in Vancouver.  hmmmm.  Perhaps he has been Vishnapped!

Vish is probably spending time contemplating life up in official R3 Host Fortress of Solitude. It's Jijou's turn next week I believe.

hi everyone! it's nice that (almost) everyone is back!!

a weatherbomb? really? there's an ankles worth of icy slush here. we had ridiculously high winds on saturday night which (thanks to that, the moon, & a high tide) brought a storm surge. it's incredibly eerie to see the river where solid land should be.. but that's really it for nasty weather.

i'm really glad the weather wasn't bad last night as i was locked out... my feet were sopping wet & cold, but no adverse weather to fight. just my own stupidity for standing in a really deep puddle.

it is hilarious being back in Vancouver's 'winter' after being home in Thunder Bay for some of the holidays...past two days here, plus 9 and grey..Thunder Bay, -15 to -20 plus wind...

haven't read what Bono has to say yet, but my gut tells me to suspect ANYONE saying we need controls on the internet..

craig, thank you for that. i only caught the briefest of blurbs about the 4 soldiers & journalist.. but it still strikes fear into my heart. a very dear friend is going to afghanistan very shortly for an extended tour. i am hoping with everything in me that he makes it home safely..

to read about those who didn't make it out alive breaks my heart.

Other sad news today, Montreal signer Llasa died after a battle with breast cancer. :(

Afghanistan..I mostly clench up and am unable to properly articulate my feelings on the whole matter. Wishing for good vibes and as much awareness/alertness as possible to all our men and women over there (anywhere they happened to be deployed of course, Afghanistan just being where most are), both military and civilian. Thank you to all reporters for doing what you do..especially high thanks to those such as Ms. Lang who endanger themselves to bring us citizens information

oh no. that is terribly sad, jivemama.  i found an article here.  i saw her sing at the Ottawa Bluesfest once a few years ago, at the encouragement of Neko Case, who was on another stage at the same time, who basically told us all to stop watching her and go see Lhasa instead because she was all kinds of awesome.  isn't that something?  and that will be the only ti.me  i will see her sing.  and she was an amazing musician.  too many people dying far too young.

Was anyone almost more shocked that Bono has a regular column in the New York Times? Like, reading things he's said that show he doesn't really know what he's talking about wasn't shocking, but a regular column? really? How did that happen?

ugh, prorogued parliment. I wish I could just randomly decide to take a couple months off work with pay when things aren't going my way. Well, I guess I can prorogue work for a minute to get some water.

i like the sentiment - i think the Greens are gaining traction as a pragmatic party..they really nailed my support down during the last provincial election i participated in in Ontario when they called for abolition of public funding for the separate school board....what a useless antiquated holdover from the past
