Lost in all the screaming is how well written of a song it actually is.  And seeing how next week is the Religion show, it's worth having a read.  Damian appears to be very critical of a lot of major religions.  (That's just my take on the whole thing).

Before I got on F'd Up's bandwagon I didn't know any of the lyrics.  Now that I DO, I love them even more.  There's a lot going on in these songs, more than you'd ever think.  Seriously.

In more serious news for the day, Folk singer Kate McGarrigle dies (McGarrigle Sisters, mother of Martha and Rufus Wainwright.)

Also, today is the special election in Massachusetts to fill Ted Kennedy's Senate seat for the remainder of the term he was elected for. Quite literally, healthcare reform efforts that have been going on in the States for the past year hinge on the outcome of this election. Should the Republican candidate prevail, reform will die in the senate (as in these dysfunctional days 59 of 100 votes is not sufficient to clear procedural tactics.) To any R3 listeners in Massachusetts, please, please, please get out and vote. The reforms fall well short of ideal, but at the same time are rather modest, with plenty of good ideas. If passed 30 million uninsured people will gain access to medical care. That is an astounding amount of good. 30 million. Canada's population...I will never understand the mendacity that underlies the right wing in the States. I really hope today doesn't end up being sadder..but things are tight in the Bay State..

I do have it on order, and I'm patiently waiting :) I probably should've waited a bit, then I coulda put a bid in for those test pressings yesterday. Oh well.

In the past few weeks, I've got so many vinyls (Spoon(x2), Blue Rodeo, Blakroc, Cuff the Duke) in my apartment I can't quite keep up.  I've been having to listen to them at 45 rpm just to speed up the process.

When Owen Pallet, Woodhands, F'd Up, Girls, and Little Girls show up, I'll probably never leave my bachelor pad again.  Wanna come over? haha

By far the sexiest cheese is a slice of processed cheddar, grilled lovingly between two slices of buttered white bread, intermingled with three strips of bacon, so much so that you can't tell where the cheese ends and the bacon begins, served with a plate of hand cut fries for only $2.00 and consumed in a dive bar during a Kramden's concert/video shoot.  Thats not just sexy, thats love.

Everyone better be giving 'Do' a thumbs up right now.

Mozzarella is gross.  There, I said it.  Unless it's a smoky Mozzarella.  Or crispy.

I agree with you on the freshly grated parmesan - so much better than the weird pre-grated stuff you get from the grocery store. However, I have to disagree on the mozzarella thing. There's a certain brand (I can't remember the name of it now) but it has the perfect saltiness and I could eat it allll day.

Man, this is making me really hungry. Good thing it's almost lunch time.

I don't see how you can go around comparing cheeses without context.  I mean, cheddar doesn't belong on pizza, but I wouldn't want mozza with my apple pie, you know?  And for on top of cheap-o spaghetti sauce, it's fresh parm all the way.

No processed cheese for me either! I think I get it from my mom - she always abhorred the thought of processed cheese on anything. Your grilled cheese sounds delish. I think the best grilled cheese I've ever had was when I was travelling in Portugal and we made sandwiches on brioche with gouda and brie. SO good. Who knew you could make something so amazing in a hostel kitchen.

I'm not saying it's better, but I've made pizza approximations with both medium cheddar and monterey jack, at times.

When I was in university, I knew a guy who held an annual grilled cheese festivel / open house.  People would go to his house to hang out and bring either some kind of cheese or some kind of bread.  Though I had many delicious sandwiches there, it's the sharp cheddar on raisin bread that really sticks in my mind.

I assume he's still doing it, but I'm on the other side of the country now.  Maybe after I move, I'll hold a grilled cheese festival / open house / house warming.

I've come to realise that a g. c. sandwich as I described is probably my most favourite comfort food; for instance when I really don't feel like eating anything despite my stomach growling. It's not often that the g.c.s. misses!

Especially with some nice sundried olives on the side... Yum...

Perhaps I was too harsh on the cheddar/pizza front.  It's not that it can't go onto pizza, but that it can't compete with good mozzerella on pizza.  Cheddar on pizza can be a nice change, and adding a little cheddar can certainly liven up less-delicious mozza on pizzas.

Maybe this should be the next book for Vish's book club?

The sharp ch. on raisin br. sounds abs -- um, positutly delish.

Raisins, especially when warmed, should come back into our diets. A little sweet taste like theirs goes well with many savoury flavours!

Excellent.  We shall spread the festival of the grilling of the cheese, until no corner of the country is without those crunchy bits that end up on the grill.

I believe the traditional date is groundhog day, but it tended to slip.

Also: apparently if you don't say different, people will bring both bread and cheese and leave the leftovers there, and you will have more bread and cheese than you can actually eat before it goes bad.  I know this because my friend's invitations got more specific every year about how no one should bring both.

Fresh parm on challah under the broiler?  Might have to try that tonight.  Good thing I have a Jewish Deli next door!

...and I just realized that I spent 20 minutes looking for a cartoon I had that would've made this post a lot funnier.  It made fun of UPS deliveries, and that they don't actually "deliver" anything.  They just sneak up and put the "sorry we missed you" sticker on your door.

So incredibly busy with work today (how fitting, given the topic is time), haven't been able to review the posts above.  I'm sure they are fraught with the usual pithy and brilliant kernels of wisdom &/or lunacy.
