You know the thing about space it that sound doesn't travel so I guess this would be a silent show in space. Think about that?!

Unfortunately I can't listen today, I have car troubles to deal with....  Sorry for anyone who likes cars, but I hate cars, they're money pits.  Will listen later!

I'm thinking of religion as a theme for next week.  Although I'm not religious I see lots of songs with connections to religion, especially Christianity.  For example:

so I'm watching the Last Waltz the other night, for like the 1000th time. You know the part where Robbie is talking to Scorcese about a show he played in Forth Worth Texas at the beginning of the movie?

"We go in and, in this huge place, there's about three people in the audience.A one-armed go-go dancer and a couple of drunk waiters.- A couple here, a couple there.- Somebody fires a tear gas... And it hit me: I have no idea who Jack Ruby is. So I look up his wikipedia, only to find that he shot Lee Harvey Oswald, the guy who shot JFK!

so here's my connection: Tom Wilson plays in Lee Harvey Osmond. Tom also plays in Blackie & the Rodeo Kings who put on a tribute to the Last Waltz.

I am slightly embarrassed that my connection made it even though it was stolen from a connection from weeks ago.  I am glad that there is not a “No Tolerance Policy” for 2sday with regards to plagiarism.  Or double negatives.

I am SO PUMPED about Thursday's show.  Never have I been so excited about sitting in my windowless laboratory.  I have been looking for excuses to do more spectrogram analysis that day just so I can listen to the entire thing uninterrupted.

I have the last Waltz cd in my work truck, and it's probably been in there for a few months.  I literally just didn't have the heart to take it out. 

so when I did finally ejected, I felt like I owed it to the guys to watch the movie at least.  I can safely say, I'll NEVER get old of that movie.  It's just too amazing. Those guys just mean so much to me, it's literally hard to watch the Danko scene where he's in the control room trying to figure out his life knowing that he ends it so tragically so shortly after

I am now able to listen to Craig on the bus on the way to work! 

Boy, this iPhone that I was given by my daughter at Christmas is pretty amazing. 

Radio3 is slowly taking over my life.

I agree with your beef about the CBC app! I hate how you have to keep it open to listen. I wish they could find some way to make it run in the background.

Yes, that story of the National City Lines where GM, Firestone Tire, Standard Oil, Phillip Petroleum, Mack Trucks, formed NCL to purchase urban streetcar lines, and over time, convert them to buses, and thereby help GM and Mack sell buses, Firestone provide the tires, and the oil companies sell them oil.  That impact was true even here in Sacramento where the Sacramento City Lines were converted to bus in 1947.    Matter of fact, there were streetcar lines all over California at one time, but only good old San Francisco kept theirs.  However, today, light rail systems now run in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Jose, San Francisco (expanded) and Sacramento. 

However, the change in the public's tastes and desires pretty much drove (pun intended) the change.  Private auto ownership.  In Canada, the same abandonment of urban rail systems happened.  Vancouver used to have a great urban rail network, BC Electric Railway that was abandoned in the early 1950s.  And now with Sky Train and the West Coast Express rail transit has returned.

I do have enough Preference points now, as a matter of fact, to do The Canadian, 3-person suite to Vancouver. Time is the only concern, Sir. It is in the cards for this year, though. For sure!

I am heading to Sydney for the ECMAs in March and was actually thinking of taking the train to Halifax at that time. But again, I need to get there and get back, post-haste!

Actually I am still on Sprint Canada somehow. Candice Bergen shows up once a month with a couple of goons to collect her money. 

Since the CBC and VIA Rail are both Crown Corporations, maybe you could do something on the air that could benefit you both.  Cross advertising, something like that.  Or at least they could buy you a drink.

ECMAs are in Sydney?  Go back to your CN days and there were multiple trains per day to Cape Breton.  Did it myself in 1977.  And I still have the airchecks I recorded from the radio stations in Sydney and Halifax.

both times I've seen him play (one other time with BARK) me and my friends have been the youngest ones there by decades.  Which sucks because he ROCKS.

Anyways, I didn't have the guts to ask him for the Last Waltz gig off his laptop.  Still desperately searching for it.  I wonder if theres a video to it too...

Also, Toronto still has streetcars.

Man, I miss the TTC.  Hopefully I can move closer to work soon, and won't have to depend so much on ETS.

Every time I hear I'll Bring the Sun, like MJ2001, I think of Lana's show. Just like the Young Galaxy song makes me think we're paring down the Searchlight Short List! So perhaps a show with all the songs by the artists that no longer are associated with the song, because they now belong to our collective Radio3 vernacular.

D:< You ran your mouth all through the show?  Typical.  If I'm disappointed I will never listen to CBC ever again!

...except not.  As far as I'm concerned CBC can do no wrong.  This station is the only thing that makes work bearable.  I must listen in for 40-45 hours a week.  The only down side is that the chatter between songs often makes me laugh so my co-workers think I'm a nutter.

radio 3 is where sometimes(often) i'm disappointed when a host break is over.

This talk of time and shows just made me realize that the last show I actually attended was in Easter 2005!!!  Oh, my God.  At least it was a good one.  Philadelphia, PA: Arcade Fire and Islands.  Arcade Fire kept telling the crowd they were Islands.  At one point they hid Easter eggs on the stage and let people come up and search for them.

It's probably this fact alone that got me so into Radio 3.

I immediately bought TLC from Woodpigeon after you played them today.  It had been on my wishlist, but I finally decided I couldn't wait any longer.  Now I've got that AND Heartland to listen through!

On the front page it says Owen Pallet will be hosting from 7 AM to 11 PM Pacific Time

Here's a serious question: What should I do about Heartland? It's only 12 days into January and I don't want to break my "no more cd's" resolution.  Should I cave and go to HMV? my record store is on indefinite hiatus and I don't know if I can wait to order the LP online.

Wait to listen to the album in its entirety - with Owen talking about each separate track - on Thursday's show. Then, decide if it's a must-have!

I know it was done for Mamma Yamma, but I love that song and would be quite happy if it showed-up on an album some day.

oh no.  if you go to the Domino records website you can order it and have it deliverd for about $20.  make sure you click on the US site though.... that's my 20/20 advice
