There's this thing I do when I have insomnia: I don't look at my clock. Or at least I try not to. No need to know how little sleep I'll be getting, and if the morning seems especially far off, I feel especially despondent.
More times than not (like last night) it was 4 a.m. For some reason this strange midway between night and morning comes up a lot in art, like A.C. Newman's "The Palace at 4 a.m."
If you've ever found yourself alert at this awkward time, you might find thisĀ insightful bit of theatre provided by the TED lecture series, most enjoyable. Despite how it feels, somewhere out there, you have a soul mate.
