Thankfully for me, my most anticipated album on the list is Owen Pallet, so I don't have long to wait!  Other notable anticipatory albums include Woodhands, Old Man Luedecke, Matthew Barber, New Royalty, and The Death Avengers (the last two are not on your list, but due out early this year). 

Of course, what I really look forward to is the stuff I don't know about, the surprises.  There's lots of stuff on that list, I bet some of it will blow me away.

You are missing the Broad Way Sleep album that is releasing in early February which is exciting new emerging music.

I can't really process that whole list at once, it's too much awesome.  Plus a lot of the artists listed are new to me.  But I'm definitely looking forward to Kinnie Starr.  And like everyone else, I'm sure I'll fall in love with other albums on this list.

I'm excited for a number of these, it really seems like it's going to be a great year for canadian music!

In particular it's hard not to look forward to more output from Arcade Fire and certainly Old Man Lueudecke.

excited for Hannah to have her release. Aidan Knight's is going to get a LOT of attention (he's actually having a release party for the album this weekend in Victoria) and the We Are The City should be awesome.

(side note to Grant: You know when someone latches onto a phrase and there's a period of time that they use it a lot...well when I was at home for Christmas my mom said "Bingo Bango Bongo" like 40 times in a week. And the only way it didn't drive me crazy was because everytime, in my head, I finished it with "you can't beat Luongo" )

oh yeah! Aidan Knight's Versicolour EP is quite good. I didn't mention I'm looking forward to it because I already have it :p

Holy F and Broken Social Scene for sure.  I've got to admit, I've been out of the loop the last couple of months when it comes to Canadian music.  Most of my most anticipated releases for the early part of 2010 aren't Canadian. They include spoon, shout out louds, rogue wave, ted leo, midlake, vampire weekend.

I want to say that Hawksley album, as I'm a giant fan, but Im still confused as to how that is working. Releasing Milk track by track? and then Meat all at once? Curious.

The funny thing about a lot of the smaller bands is that I have a lot of the music already. Like Hollerado, I have the Record (not in its bag anymore I think)...but its release is on that list. Though I'm sure that means Canadian tour soon and I am majorly excited to see them play again finally.

Hannah Georgas, Owen Pallett, Basia Bulat, and OML are all anticipated releases around here.

Is Meaghan Smith being re-released?  I thought for sure I saw that CD months ago at one of the local spots?  Or maybe it was an EP?  Somebody must know.

Also, Miss Emily Brown has a CD, "In Technicolor," for pre-order on her MySpace - has that beenj officially released as of yet or should that go on the list?

Finally, the R3 powers-that-be willing, I'll pop-up on the second half of this list. ;)

I had my friend on the phone from Toronto giving me, and the 30 people around me in my section at the Canucks game, updates. When the US scored in overtime, I swore pretty loudly and after I informed the panicked fans, the guy in front of me stood up, cupped his mouth and shouted "THE U.S. JUST WON. LETS GET DRUNK!" and shortly after a chorus of BOOOOOOOOOs flowed over GM place. It was super eerie to hear.

Boo indeed.

#1-3. Arcade Fire (Not too many bands have a perfect track record. Literally.  they don't have a bad song yet, so I'm assuming this album is going to be 3 times as awesome as anythign else this year).

#6 BSS I guess. I didn't even know they had something in the works.  Will this be a "Presents:...." or an actual BSS album?

Least anticipated: hawksley workman.  I don't want to be a Debbie Downer here, but I just don't get him? Yeah he's creative and talented and seems like an awesome dude, but I dunno.  I'll just leave it at that.

June eh?  Sounds like a wonderful time to release an album!  We should do a nature-themed tour.  ;)

the LV's have to be damn close to finishing their album.  At the last show, I didn't know at least 3/4 of the songs.  They all seem brand new.  Also that "Drinking Games" song has been around for a while and not on an official release.

I know they tweeted about recording some stuff at home, but it's so cold and snowy here there's a real possibility that they're trapped in a ditch somewhere.

I am looking forward to discovering more music.  I only discovered R3 last year and am now completely addicted.  I was getting pretty bored with music in years past and for some reason was having a hard time getting into anything new.  Now new is all I crave.  Thank you R3 for helping me enjoy great new CANADIAN music.  

Now all I have to do is figure out a way to get me one of those great scarfs or toques...my ears are freezin'!!

That seems eerily similar to when i was in Calgary for the Grey Cup last year. 

So, keep in mind the entire city is green and anticipating the riders winning.  On the train to the game, it was literally a ZOO.  Rider Pride was out in full force.  Bomber Fans were getting regulated to the back of the bus, Als fans were nowhere to be seen, 'twas glorious.

Then the Riders blow it.

The city is still green, the train is still packed with Rider fans, and it's *silent*.  Some guy who looks like he lives on the train yells out "LETS GO RIDERS!", to which an older gentleman replies "shut up!". Quick round of applause.  Silence. 

It was a very eery atmosphere.  Especially since we, just like the rest of Canada last night, just didn't see any other outcome than a win. 

but basically, I've had way too much heartbreak in the last few months than I can handle. (Riders, halladay, and now the Jr's.....).  Come on Men's Team!!!!!

hear hear! I was in your exact position about 1-2 years ago. And now all my discretionary spending and idle time is spent on music and shows, I write and breath and blog music. Radio 3, Canadian indie and a year changes everything.

NYE was epic. It was like watching talented musicians play rock band w/ real instruments. Speaking of Arcade Fire, Rebellion/Lies was the second song after the countdown and the whooole crowd was screaming LIES! LIES! at the tops of their lungs. So many moments. We missed you!

Classes are great! 2 of them don't have finals, 20% participation, and super interesting. But to pay for my textbooks is another issue.

Like you, I really hooked up with R3 in the past year.  I have great respect and admiration for the Canadian scene as a whole, and faithfully go out to artist websites to purchase their music as often as possible.  We HAVE to continue to support these artists to keep the scene alive....not to mention their families, cuz they hafta eat!!!!

I'm looking forward to the Hollarado album.  I downloaded Juliet when it came out and its still in high rotation on my ipod.  Also can't wait for Hannah Georgas full lenght album I think its going to be soooo good.  And third on my list is Zeus, it'll be nice to have a full album of their solid tunage.  Any word on a full length Library Voices release?

I did my Wednesday radio show on CKCU and I played Walk You Down by Basia Bulat as her album got leaked. Where are Plants and Animals??? I'm sure they have a new album coming in early 2010. Maybe it's later in the year I don't know, but I know one is coming in 2010. That's the one I'm looking forward to. And of course WOODHANDS!!!!!!!!

April TBC - Ania Ziemirska - I Was The Girl EP (independent)

My daughter in law, a jazz vocalist, and their best friend, a multi-instumentalist whose first love is electronica, have just released a CD under the name Collection Get!  Artist page still to be built, but you can be sure it will.

They will be having a CD release in Winnipeg and Montreal in the upcoming weeks.

As for that list, there is so much to be excited about I don't know where to start.  So I won't.

Well my volunteering is a "me" thing, so not only do I get to give back but I get to see shows at the same time. A lot of my musical tastes aren't that of my wife's so some shows I fly solo to.

But others, that we agree on, we have Mom & Dad, a sitter and siblings in the city to choose from. We're lucky that way.

Damn!! I should've sucked it up. Looks like an amazing time. Yep, I seen the pics Christine, but no harm in me feeling silly for being a bum and not coming by looking through them again. Holy Gorgeous Hannah Georgas! Everyone in the photo album looks great in their finery...somehow Kirk of Doom got a couple R3 ladies to give him a NYE smooch on the cheek too!

Great line up, thats for sure, but what about Hey Ocean! or Said The Whale?  Those two bands are my Christmas favourites.  I bought, yes bought, can't bring myself to illegaly download such good Canadian music, the new-ish Said the Whale album, and then found Hey Ocean! on youtube by following some links.  These two bands got me through the post-Christmas blues and long flights to and from Toronto.  Hey Ocean! especially, with their fun sound, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, and...beautiful singer (okay, so I have a minor celebrity crush on her, it was Christmas!) were exactly what I needed, but now I just want more more more!!!  I really hope either of these bands releases new material this year, sooner than later hopefully!  If only I had known about Hey Ocean! one week earlier because then I would have gone and seen them in Victoria at the Jon & Roy Christmas Special!

And Aidan Knight, I will be at your concert, going to be sweet!  Too bad me and Blake couldn't work something out in time, I would have loved to play with him to open for you.  Best of luck!

Hey Cam, thanks for the good wishes.  The most Canadian thing I got for Christmas was a cabernet-shiraz from a winery in southwestern Ontario from my oldest daughter.  (Bought at the winery - she was on a long term assignment in Detroit last year.) 

Of course, I was hoping to be honing my skills at crokinole, proudly showing off my bucky award trophy while wearing my new R3 toque, but no.  As the narration says at the beginning of Sloan's She Says What She Feels, I feel it is nothing but an exploded myth.

And my son is the only one of our children who did not make it home for Christmas, trading his time with his wife's family.

Like everyone else, I will be in line to get a copy. Not just because I am an R3 superfan like everyone else, but also because Grant has an incredible ability to tell a story. I mean we all witness here, daily with his show. But anyone who caught his Best Story Ever on The Hour, knows.

Let's face it, he's to Radio3, what Stuart MacLean is to Radio1.

I am sure like the rest of the Radio3 people that have other creative outlets, outside of the R3 world, it's going to be like pulling teeth to get them to self promote, and admit just how awesome what they are doing is.

But us nosey friggers will get our grimey mits on whatever it is their selling cause we love it so.

Thanks for the kind anticipatory comments on the book I've written. Yes, Jason Collett outed me because there has been no official announcement. Cheers for the interest, but it might be awhile before it sees the light of day! Just as Jason mentioned the slow gears of the music industry, I'm learning fast that the publishing industry is very similar.

@krib - Hate to be the bearer of bad news but as I know it, the Choir Practice is effectively not a band anymore. At least, not in any form of what they were. I was sad I never got to see them perform live as a full choir.

I think they were some 'changes' with Choir Practice..I can't remember off hand what they were or if they still function as a band. AlexOfAnders mentioned it to me awhile back and he wasn't sure if they were doing any recording

Was that the same time Chad made them all do Wind Noises through the Microphones. Yeah that Folk Fest was awesome, I'll be back next year.
