Hey folks, happy Wednesday, happy Hump Day if you will.

Hey Ocean! Interview:

Listen

I was telling a friend about this job hosting a radio show the other day and she said she couldn’t imagine doing it. Talking into a microphone live on air sounded way too scary for her.

Though there’s definitely some amount of nervousness that goes along with this gig, I’m pretty sure I’ve been more nervous in other performance scenarios. Maybe when you do something regularly, it becomes less intimidating, or maybe the fact that there’s no live audience here in the studio makes it easier. Doing interviews can raise the stress level of course, depending on who it is (today’s guest is Ashleigh Ball from Hey Ocean! – I hope she goes easy on me).

If I’m playing music, here are some of the scenarios that could trigger a bout of stage fright:

1)      Playing in front of a really, really LARGE audience

2)      Playing in front of a small, intimate audience full of people you know

3)      Playing right after someone else who just played a mind blowing set!

Ultimately, I enjoy performing, so over the years, I’ve invented various methods for dealing with my own bouts of stage fright.

So even if you haven’t made a career out of performing, at some point I’m sure you've been called upon to speak or do something in front of a crowd, maybe at a wedding or in class, or at work. I imagine we all know what it’s like to get stage fright. So...

HOW HAS STAGE FRIGHT STRUCK YOU IN THE PAST? What happened? Did you freeze? What tips do you have to avoid stage fright?
