Surprised Dan Lanois wasn't nominate as producer for U2. U2 is main stream enough to get notice. Sadly other GREAT Canadian acts, and bands from around the world, get overlooked at the Grammys.

I'm really excited to hear the broadcast, but it kills me that I live in LA and can't attend!

Haha, thanks for the vote of confidence, but I've got a long way to go, i'm sure.  I don't know what the future is going to bring, but as long as it involves music in some way, shape, or form, i'm sure it'll be good.

We're very lucky, here in Canada, to have so many talented artists spread-out all over the country, and to have things like Canadian Blast and Radio 3 live broadcasts.  Just something that's been on my mind for a few days now...

I'm going to throw my hat in for Metric as well, Fantasies is such a great album! Chad VanGaalen as well if Soft Airplane falls within the right timeframe.

The Hip got airplay on one radio station I used to listen to HERE IN DETROIT, but the station was a Canadian station from Windsor.

Been waiting to listen to Hey Rosetta! play alll night long.

Of all the HR! shows I've been to they've never played Bandages. This is a treat. 

Does anyone know if Hey Rosetta! has ever played Red Song live? I've only heard Seeds played.

Yup, they play Red Song every once in a while. It's been kicking around since 2008.

I was watching the broadcast tonight of The Office earlier and a Subaru commercial used Basia Bulat! So with Great Lake Swimmers in Honda, Holy Frig for Chrysler, who needs Canadian bands getting Grammy love? They seem to be crossing the border just fine!

Very cool to hear that Leonard Cohen and Daniel Lanois are there, and that Neil Young is being honoured.  These guys were the indie musicians of their day.  They were, and are, artists who make great music for the sake of making great art, and they largely built the foundations of Canadian music that most of today’s indie artists stand on. 

What Canadian artist deserves a Grammy nomination?  The most critically acclaimed Canadian album this year, apart from Neko Case’s, was the Japandroids album, and K’Naan’s album came in not far behind.

Me too. They are great!! [LoT] Being that you are in Nova Scotia, I cringe to ask, how many times have you seen Hey Rosetta!? I've been lucky enough to catch 3 shows. Can't wait for Olympics. Hey Rosetta! and Stars...i just went slightly catatonic..

I've seen them 8 times. Luckily they come here quite a bit. I also saw them in New Brunskick in the Fall.

Yeah I'm jealous of all the Olympic shows! Free Wilco too! Wow.

I didn't realize all those artist were playing. That is quite impressive.

I can't exactly recall how many times I've seen HR! (and then there are times I've played with them - one time, I followed a solo set by Tim; very scary), but it's definately up there.  They used to play my university a fair amount.

It's interesting hearing what they sound like now compared to "way back when."

Slightly jealous. Yeah I've only really seen them post Into Your Lungs. My first Hey Rosetta! show was in November of 2008 when they opened up for Stars.

WE don't work for the Ceeb...no lawyers breathing down our necks..it's the Olympics that's coming up! And yes, it is a testament to blogs, and a shame to general media avenues that knotty's is the best aggragation of that info I've found anywhere.

@TM&TT - wow. It is stories like that make me really wish I had the focus to stay with guitar and a small dose of creativity. Oh yeah, thanks for letting us sing on your album! I'll have another file for you this weekend (we can still send you one, right?)

I remember that tour.  Funny story...

They played 2 nights here in St. John's - a Monday and a Tuesday.  So, I booked 2 different bars, one for each night, and held post-Stars shows (the concerts finished at 11PM or so).  The first night, Monday, I played with a now-defunct band okgiraffe, from Montreal/BC.  The members of Stars actually came down, introduced themselves, and put me on the door for the show the next night!

The next night, both bands showed-up.  You can see the HR! peeps out at shows here on a regular basis.

First time seeing HR!?  Hmmm....  2005 or 2006 - can't totally recall...

Favorite time seeing them may be this particular night(s).

PS - Tims solo sets are excellent!  I regret following him that night, haha!

I think that Olympic lineup is actually a little disappointing.  I assume that some of the more prominent Vancouver artists declined invitations to play, but how great would it have been to have the New Pornographers and Neko Case play the Olympics?  Tegan and Sara would have been great to have as well.  Diana Krall?  Michael Buble?  Even Nickelback would have made a lot of sense.  They have a huge international fan base.

Does Kathleen Edwards live in Vancouver now?  Anyway, those are all very good up and coming artists, but, except for Kathleen who does have a significant international reputation already, they aren’t really headline acts for a gig like the Olympics.  Neko Case had the #3 album on the Pazz and Jop list this year, and she’s up for a Grammy, and she came out of the Vancouver music scene.  The New Pornographers are by far Canada’s most critically acclaimed band this decade, and one of the most critically acclaimed in the world.  Krall and Buble are world renowned Jazz artists who come from BC.  Nickelback is a huge mainstream rock back and they live in Vancouver now.  These would have been obvious choices, so I assume that they’re not there because they declined invitations, but I don’t know that for sure. 

Here is the Emmylou Harris album that Daniel Lanois produced.  It includes songs by Neil Young, Anna McGarrigle, and Daniel Lanois.  The McGarrigle sisters and Neil Young also perform on the album.
