It’s Fresh Friday, so that means lots of new music for the playlist, and some really, really new music.
Back in the Fall of 2009, CBC Vancouver’s afternoon show On the Coast set out to find the best high school band in these parts. Sixty bands entered, but of course there could only be one winner. And that winner This Means Nothing in Mexico, is finally claiming one of their prizes: a chance to play their studio-recorded song on Appetite for Distraction.
Taking their name from a crossword puzzle clue (answer: nada), TMNIM have only been together a few months but were able to put together enough original music to enter the contest, make the top 10, then 3…and then claim the prize during a live battle of the bands with the other two finalists.
Jonathan Heggen and Nathan Ma join me today in the studio to tell me how their lives have changed since winning, their plans for the future, and talk about their upcoming show at one of the official Olympic stages. At least all of this means much in Vancouver!
