Remember when the New Oxford American Dictionary posted its new words of the year? Unfriend, ecotown, deleb (dead celeb) and even funemployment made the cut. It’s true, language has changed, we’re making new word combinations and short forms abound! I’m sure with the next crop of young songwriters we'll be hearing more modern lingo in song.
This song, “Understand”, is the first I’ve heard incorporate this new type of language (then again, maybe it’s time to start analyzing my collection…). The lyrics involving short forms of ‘bf’ and ‘gf’ seemed to fit perfectly within the poppy piano and sweet vocals.
Coincidentally, Darelle London's new album is called Edible Word Parade and will be out next month.
