Yes, the CBC Radio 3 scarf has been officially brought out of hiding. 

i just had a 5 day staycation too! It was fantastic!

I love a good list!

I really like the way the short list voting is organised. Very easy to use. The lack of obligation to vote for every one is also a good idea. I almost used it. Examples, etc.,  are also very good to have.

So, kudos to the webmaster or intertubes designer!

Don't give up!  I'll look into scarf giveaway privelidges for Lanarama. Stand by.

wow, you were remarkably out of touch for someone staycationing. Very few FB posts or anything.

But I saw one by the sound board at the Ohbijou show at the Lo on Friday.

It has been warm and sunny here for going on 3 weeks, unbelievable.  Not scarf weather, yet.

Also saw DJ Champion on Saturday, what a great night SChappallez and I had. 

Also saw BioSpice's sister in a play at the theater.  She was fab!   It is a talented family.

glad you had some productive time away from work. i need to make a bunch of lasagna and put in the freezer so i have ready to heat supper instead of being sucked into the megabites across from my building way more than i should be...

something in the things that are new department is my blog that i started up over the weekend. Arkells at the venue in a few days is something to look forward to..

I have one coming up the week after our Thanksgiving.  That'll be 11 days off.  Sweet!  I hope there are some good shows then.

Funnily enough, I have very little trouble ignoring stuff around the house. I probably should take a staycation to do some work, but there just aren't enough vacation days available to waste them on working around the house...

I was unfortunately at a funeral for a good friend this weekend, in Victoria.  It was nice to get away.  I guess going to Victoria is kind of like a "staycation"... but it's out of the city, sort of, and the pubs are way better!  Man, do I ever like Victoria pubs!  Vancouver could certainly take a memo about how to do them properly.

Is there going to be another Lanarama Calendar for next year?  Going to be taking suggestions for the images?

Ahh, but I know I can just do nothing at home, but I also know I have so many projects that may have been in progress for years that I feel guilt if I don't do anything on them.  Yet, if I'm away camping - I really relax - the only time during the year.  Other times, I'll take trips to see my best buddy down in San Diego, or up to the northwest to see my kids in Portland and Tacoma.  And...if I get that close...the draw of the taste of maple syrup draws me up across the border, although I think all the maple syrup comes from Quebec and New Brunswick, no?

Besides, I'd rather go someplace than just stay at home!

Most maple syrup comes from the East, although there are some brave souls making it by using the sap of the Manitoba maple out here on the Prairie. i have yet to try some of it, but here's what you need to get started

I don't think I have ever had one of those.  Last time I had a week where I had nothing to do by the first day I was going batty and I went home to my dad's farm and cut hay for a week. I am pretty much unable to sit around the house for more than a day.

 And I hope you get some scarf give away privleges as I would like to get my hands on one of them.

I would agree.  I have personally met two really great people off the blog(rocknrollloser and hgummo)and it is nice to have someone who wants to go to all the same concerts as you and if they don't know who the band is they are usually game to go anyways. I <3 the blog

Yes, I am very excited about Martin's 3 hour stop over here.  I have stopped telling people about it, because they make the craziest assumptions.

I have been thinking since I wrote that post, that credit must also be given to facebook.  As a poster here since the inception, I recall how difficult it was to find out who someone was pre-FB.

I knew Cody was from around here, but had no real way to find him.

I've actually made an r3 date from the blog today! but Jennelle is a friend of a friend, so it's not too random.  Except for the fact we only really talk on the blog and at shows.  I hope she isn't reading this as I'm spilling the beans.

When I wrote to Alex asking, "do you have a sofa I can crash on", he said he did, and we made plans for my visit.  I was so incredibly thrilled to 1)come back to Canada, 2)to visit Vancouver again, 3)know that I was going to Radio3's studios to meet all of these people I've talked to/emailed/blogged to and 4)to meet some of my Radio3 friends.  He was my host, and I had only two goals: going to Radio3 and seeing Two Hours Traffic.  Other than that, where ever Alex wante do go, we went.  After all, nothing better than going to a city and being shown around by a local.  So, I arrived in Vancouver in about the best attitude possible.  I was back in Canada!

When kn0tty3rb approached me at the train station with her scarf around her neck (that's our gang's colours!), she welcomed me to Van, gave me a hug, and pulled out Alex's keys from her purse.  I thought it was so cool, that Alex felt comfortable with me, but you know, I'd have done the same thing if the rolls were reversed.  We were already friends - good friends - before we even met.  As it was, I was snoozing on that sofa when Alex came home that night when we shook hands for the first time.  And damn it - I had forgotten to take off my shoes inside his apartment.  Ahh, your Canadian customs!

What an incredible time!  I cannot wait to come back to Van!  But I'm not quite sure about having another Caesar.

Agreed.  However, for the time being, I highly recommend who ever can travel come to the Winnipeg Folk Fest, for lots of reasons.

We will have a big R3 contingent this year, myself, drock, Jenelle, Loweda, maybe Cody, MackenzieC.  there is plenty of camping, we can hang out, or not cause there is lots of stuff to see and do.   There is always a CBC host on mainstage.

And it has what we all love,  music!

okay! so cool!  I'm pretty sure, TheRadioHead, that the scarf you saw near the sound board at the Obijou show on Friday I saw on Ryan from Slow Down Molasses the next morning at the Falafel Place on Corydon (in Winnipeg)!!! 

the whole story: I was there for breakfast with friends and sister.  there's a group of about 8 people at a table in my line of sight.  I say: "who wants to bet that's a band?  Those guys look like a band".  It was agreed.  We left it at that, until they were leaving, and I saw this blonde guy putting on an R3 scarf.  He started to look familiar.  I said "could it be Slow Down Molasses?"  My friend told me that they were indeed playing in town the night before, with Obijou. So I realized that it must be Ryan from Slow Down Molasses, or No Dice, one of the first ever Craig Norris Hour Listener Co-host Initiative co-hosts, wearing the scarf.  So over I go, and introduce myself.  They were excited at the "fan sighting". He even had seen my blog post/heard my TCNH LCI hosting the day before. So that was fun.  It made my day. 

And that is the end of my story.

re. staycation, can't wait to do that this Christmas.  it's going to be good.

Count me in for a blogger gathering. Winnipeg is not that far from Michigan.

Don't think I'll be in the city for very long this weekend will likely be a 5am coffee stop and that is about it.  And I imagine you will likely be one of many in your prime this weekend.  Half my home town will be at the game. Christmas however I have a whole week of boredom to look forward too so we will have to grab a beer one of those days.

The drawback there is that there is no camping.

The WFF has 2 campgrounds, the "quiet" for loosers, and festival camping, where you never sleep.  You can get a FF pass with camping from Wednesday morning until Monday morning, for under $200.

Almost 1/3 of the attendees are from away, many from north and south Dakota, and Michigan. 

The alternative stage has all the bands we listen to here, drock and I never even went to mainstage last year, although mainstage is something to experience.  tens of thousands of people all there for the same reason.  Amazing!

For all we know Grant is in tank top and underwear? I thought we definitely knew this already!

Just to confirm though, it's not just me who can't get CBC's video player to run in Ubuntu (or whatever distro)?  I'd prefer to stream HNIC direct from the cbc website instead of going through atdhe.net

@radiohead: That does sound awesome.  I was really antsy to go this year, but just didn't.  On the flipside, since the RFF is right downtown that makes it pretty good too.  You can wander all over downtown and kind of come and go as you wish.  But for a gathering, camping would be ideal.

@tim: you read my mind buddy.  It only happens every so often, but one of these times I really might actually considering thinking about going.

@alex: I do love Vancouver and want any excuse to go back there.  But it's not very central which may turn off the east coasters.  Unless it was a revolving festival? That could be fun.  Or maybe 4 seperate festivals for each of the summer months? I love pipe dreams

I have just concluded a 3 week argument with the Ceeb over the video player not being programmed for Linux. 

They figure it is less than 1% of the market, and they have no intentions of changing it.  It has to do with being redirected to watch the advertising before the programming.

Please complain to audience relations.  I do believe they are underestimating the segment of the population they are excluding.

That is so funny, because I did not think I saw Ryan at that show.  I recognized him at Library Voices the week before.

The place was as packed as I have ever seen it, and I did not stand up front for SDM.  Can't believe I did not see him.

I've looked at the fares to YWG, just picking a date in June to get an idea on fares, and I can see I'd better start saving now.  And I'd better hit the lottery if I want to take the train.

that's crap. They've done something else. How do all the other viewers work in Linux and still show commercials (like CBC)?

yeah I dunno man.  I kinda blame the CBC (sorry!) for playing Rockers East Vancouver/Boys are Leaving Town so much.  Because I honestly wasn't picking up what they were putting down, til I picked up their vinyl for dirt cheap and figured what the hell.  the rest of the album kicks so much ass, and the live show solidified that.  even though they didn't play wet hair........

As for Fucked Up.... I can totally totally understand why people are automatically turned off by them. BUT: I hate hardcore music too. I don't even like anything of what they did before. But if you can get over the screaming, there's a million guitars and lots of beautiful instruments being played throughout the whole thing.  It's very melodic and the song structures are soooo creative.  Guest musicians seem to just pop in and out, and just enhance the song.I still listen to the whole thing a lot.  And now that I have the record (with lyrics!) it changed everything.  It's a shame they didn't get any nominations for Best Lyrics, some of what he writes sends shivers down my spine.  e.g. Magic Word.  I hope at least one person agrees with me so I'm not so crazy.

Once the dates are set, I'll mark 'em in my calendar and if i can swing it, i'll be there with shiny folk festival bells on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  and relive some 1991-2002 memories.  oh Hawksley, how I loved you back then.  it would be SO MUCH FUN to get back to the WFF but this time with R3 friends!!!  GREAT IDEA Ms. RadioHead.

Ami did not kick us out! I'd been warned, but we were in there for a full hour an 20 min with not so much as a glare from anyone!  First time there.  GREAT place!  That'd be a good breakfast club for Vish... but I guess Wpg is a bit far from Toronto.

Ness Creek has become my camping/music weekend. Started a couple of years ago. It's not huge (sold out at 3800 last year) and has things for the kids to do during the day (and $60, or was it $65?, for a weekend, including the rather rustic camping

that's what I thought you meant anyways..exactly my thought too (i can stream CTV and view their ads)  i don't get it, i'm EAGER to watch ads that support the Ceeb (Gob Bluth Voice) C'mon!!!...i'll be sure to reference that fact in my complaint to the ceeb
