Back in June when we broadcasted the 2009 Polaris Music Prize shortlist announcement Grant Lawrence also mentioned some basic details about  the main event where the over-sized $20,000 check will be given out. Today in a press conference Polaris prize executive director Steve Jordan divulged the rest of the info on the big night:

:: The Gala will be taking place at The Masonic Temple in Toronto, home to MTV Canada, on Sept 21st at 9pm ET

:: The whole event will be broadcast to North America on Sirius 86 and to the world right here on cbcradio3.com. There will also be a video stream of the night at MuchMusic.com

:: For the first time in Polaris history all ten nominated artists will give live performances (which we will broadcast for all you listeners at home. Super excited about that!)

:: The Grand Jury will consist of Bryan Acker (Herohill), Stuart Derdeyn (the Province), Mary Dickie (Elle), Brad Frenette (National Post), Nicholas Jennings (freelance), Robert Mersereau (CBC TV), Brendan Murphy (Hour), Mia Parang (Musique Plus), Ben Rayner (Toronto Star), Brad Wheeler (the Globe and Mail) and Lisa Wilton (Calgary Sun).

:: Presenters throughout the night will include: Jian Ghomeshi from CBC Radio's Q, Alan Cross from Explore Music, MTV Canada's Johnny Hockin, Matt Wells from MuchMoreMusic and author Rob Bowman.

:: 2008 Polaris winner Caribou will be on hand to crown the 2009 winner.

:: As is tradition here at R3, you will be able download a podcast version of all 10 performances and the best parts of the Gala on the morning of Sept 22nd
