Back in June when we broadcasted the
2009 Polaris Music
Prize shortlist announcement Grant Lawrence also mentioned some basic details about the main
event where the over-sized $20,000 check will be given out. Today in a press
conference Polaris prize executive director Steve Jordan divulged the rest of
the info on the big night:
:: The Gala will be taking place at
The Masonic Temple in Toronto, home to MTV
Canada, on
Sept 21st at
9pm ET
:: The whole event will be broadcast to North
America on
Sirius 86 and to
the world right here on cbcradio3.com.
There will also be a video stream of the night at MuchMusic.com
:: For the first time in Polaris history
all ten nominated
artists will give live performances (which we will broadcast for all you listeners
at home. Super excited about that!)
:: The Grand Jury will consist of
Bryan
Acker (Herohill),
Stuart Derdeyn (the
Province),
Mary Dickie (
Elle),
Brad Frenette (
National Post),
Nicholas Jennings (freelance),
Robert
Mersereau (CBC TV),
Brendan Murphy (
Hour),
Mia Parang (Musique Plus),
Ben Rayner (
Toronto Star),
Brad Wheeler (the
Globe and Mail) and
Lisa Wilton (
Calgary Sun).
