As we ramp up for the big announcement tomorrow, our show today will be filled with musicians giving their final plugs for their favourites in the Top Ten, plus plenty of pitches from the venue owners themselves.

What a great lineup of venues, the vast majority of which I haven't been to, but have heard excellent things about.

Of course I'm voting and hoping for my hometown favorite, Baba's, but I wouldn't be surprised with any of those clubs winning. I can imagine it's a close race!

I'm not trying to nah say, but I always always hear about this club. Even before this searchlight.
So, I'm saying it's gonna be Amigo's for the win.

Not necessarily who I've been voting for, but that's who I think is gonna take the cake.

Because one thing this has done, for me especially has raised awareness to places outside my stomping grounds that have something just like I love here in London.

Because if I ever make it to any of the cities in this contest, you can be damn sure I am going to seek out these clubs.

And…
Because people all over Canada (and hopefully elsewhere) have gotten even more passionate about music and the places we go to partake in that.

I honest think that any one of the ten could win, and I'd be happy with that result. Even the top twenty. I WANT The Aeolian to win. But CTO is just as worthy for different reasons, and I am prepare to drive to any of the 4 within 2 hours of me to 'help' in the celebrating.

I feel like George's Roadhouse is the dark horse in this competition. Maybe "Dark Horse" by Julie Doiron would be an appropriate song for all of us here in Sackville voting our hearts out! We're all loyal supporters of George's but definitely the smallest community.

that the Black Sheep Inn is not in the top 10.

I think Phog Lounge has a good chance since I seem to be hearing about it all over the place. Otherwise it will probably be Amigo's since it is the only one in the west. The votes will probably be spread out too much in the Maritimes which is too bad.
The wildcard is which clubs can really mobilize their supporters and citizens in their city. Those clubs will do the best no matter where they are.

Although it's a bit late, I'd love to see the top 3 or top 5 stay alive, with the number of votes made public. Maybe a leadership-style sharing of elective votes by the proprietors falling out of the top 10 could make for an interesting race, sort of the way leadership candidates toss their support behind other leaders.

For now, I'm inclined to vote for the establishment and city most in need of an 'at a boy'... and I'm thinking others will join me in pushing PHOG over the top.

Hopefully Amigo's and hopefully there'll be celebrations in which I can partake.

I think that the potential Western votes that could come, especially from Winnipeg, could put Amigo's over the top.

I want George's to win! But if one of the clubs in Ontario wins, I'll probably be able to take part in the celebrations!

Somebody else, not me, put it best I thought: it's not the best venue, it's the most-voted-for venue.

Me, I thought the Sheep would go from 20 to 10, but strangely was not surprised when it didn't, given I'd followed all the arguments of the previous weeks about the differences of size, location, size of city, etc.

What it DOESN'T change is: thursday at the Sheep, Kevin Breit (wow!) and C.R. Avery (doublewow) and Friday, Dar Williams!

So chin up, v!

I went to Zaphod's last night and got to see Amanda Putz there. Happy that she's still around. ;)
All I can say that I missed out on Grant being Ottawa. Doh! He would have a nice time making of me. :)
I hope Zaphod's wins Searchlight but the competition is stiff.

Hands down, the Starlight should win. By far the only place I have ever walked into a show by myself and felt totally welcome by the staff and other music fans.

I was fortunate to spend time at three clubs on the top 10 list. I have big love for The Grad Club and the Capital, but George's Roadhouse stole my heart.

I second Mr.JR's motion, I believe the Grad Club will take it all. I'm excited to see what kind of celebratory concert goes down there. Possibly a Jill/Matt Barber homecoming??

As a music journalist & fan I've been to 6 of the top ten and they are ALL great!
Though there is just something about Phog Lounge that puts them over the top, that place is an AMAZING place to see a show. In a large part due to the staff, but the atmosphere is due to the amazing people who pack into the bar like sardines and go mental for the groups who squeeze onto the tiny stage.
Congratulations to all in the top ten, but I've got my money on Windsor's Phog Lounge!

I have been voting for the Starlight because it is my hometown club, but in all honesty, I think I want Call the Office to win. As much as I love the Starlight, I really do think that CTO is one of the best clubs in Canada.

If it is either of those, I will be happy.

I'm with voytheknife - there's only one venue west of Ontario. You Easterners are gonna split the vote; and Western alienation/regionalism is gonna come home to roost! Better shine up your shit-kickers! The Sadies imminent endorsement of Amigo's will also help ;)

Maybe in the future these contests should be called a search for the best* in Canada, just to remind everyone to read the criteria for the contest. Best is always a relative term. Best according to what? In this case best is determined by fan votes, and this means that the clubs that people are passionate enough about to vote for and keep voting for will tend to rise to the top, but it also means that factors like vote splitting will come into play. What this all means is that this is more of a fun contest, and an informative contest, rather than a rigorous academic exercise. So have fun with it people! My bet is that everybody has learned a lot about a number of clubs in this contest, and a lot about what makes a club good in general.

The bar staff and sound folks at the capital bar is top notch. Having played in almost every province, I still always look forward to shows at the capital.

Capital in Fredericton all the way. I've been to many bars in many places, but the Capital surpasses them all. Awesome staff, wicked music, could you ask for anything else?
