What should a musician do when faced with a chatty audience?  That was the lunchtime question that I and my fellow Radio 3 Host Chris Alscher tossed around a few days ago.  Chris is a very animated guy so I'm not surprised that he has a few tricks up his sleeve to always keep his live show engaging and interesting.  Legend has it at a recent show he carried his drummer (and fiancé) on his shoulders around the bar while singing his finale.

Not so long ago, I went to see perform Doug Andrew and the Circus in Flames at The Main and they put on such an excellent show.  I was with a friend and we were both into the songs.  The Main is a pretty small venue, so the one table that decided to chat, laugh and holler through the first set was pretty noticeable.  I guess they were entitled to have a good time, but I was surprised they themselves didn't feel even a little self-conscious.

Well, Doug Andrew didn't carry anyone on his shoulders that night, but he sure carried those who did care to listen on a bit of a sweet journey.  And when the night was over and the rowdies were long gone, he saw us all off with this little number.
