Hey folks - hope everyone is having an awesome summer! I have been on the road for awhile and feel a little disconnected... as some of you may know, I was up in the Yukon for the awesome Dawson City Music Festival. From there, I pretty much flew back to Vancouver and then drove straight up the coast to another end-of-the-road destination: Desolation Sound, BC, where I am spending my summer vacation.

There is very little technology up here, but I discovered a spot in the nearest town (Lund) with WIFI so I am back in action (when I am in town). Otherwise, besides the odd kayaker floating by the cabin, it is pretty damn quiet! I've still managed to meet some very interesting people this year and I talk about all those characters on Sounds Like Canada all summer every Friday morning at 11AM on CBC Radio One. I also help host Kevin Sylvester become a better person through booze, beaches, and better music....

In other news, I actually may have fallen for someone this summer, which now seriously threatens my favourite joke - "sounds like my last date" - because my last date was actually pretty great! I guess I will just have to officially move on to "...said the whale!"

But anyway, hope all is well and hope you are digging the Summer of 2007 Roadtrip Mixtape Special Podcast! Next week we begin our Rewind Podcast specials, where we listen back to some of Canada's most influential bands from the past few decades. First up is the amazing wealth of talent from the 1990s, from the Halifax Pop Explosion in the east to the still-fresh-ten-years-later indie pop of the west. Producer Chris Kelly and Music Director James Booth have worked very, very hard on these very special time capsules so we hope you enjoy!

In the meantime, I'm going to grab a six-pack of Stella, hop in "Big Buck$" (the fastest boat in the Inlet) and motor back to the cabin. I'll talk to you soon...

Funny... I noticed the same thing. Given the shirts silky appearance and earthy tones, me thinks tis quite suitable as an all (every) event summertime shirt.
My question is, how does Grant maintain the same level of facial stubble for most of the posted photos?

Didn't the original Miami Vice guys end up selling an electric razor to keep that perfect 5 o'clock shadow?
I'm sure Grant just picked one of those babies up at the local SallyAnn.

I heard via the wonderful article on Viceland Magazine on our wonderful not only Scottish but "Glasgow we did it!" culture. That she is now good friends with Lisa Christiansen at radio3cbc in Vancouver!!!! I hope you agree that my big sister aka Amanda Jane Stafford is an inspirational writer not shying away from the issues of her Celt routes. This is why I am asking you since she is also band name artist AMANDA SAINT on radio3cbc that if you are in the city of Toronto in a neighbourhood called Bloor West Village that you talk with the owner of the "The Dark Horse" a fine Black Irish establishment located on Bloor Street West near Jane street and ask why Mandie Jane can not longer have her guinness and malt vinegar and chips. When the fine barmaid Christine broke the news to her tears flowed from her eyes to her chubby red cheeks. Don`t worry though she does not blame Christine she blames the city council but use your magic wand Ms Christiansen and see what the powers of the CBC can do because the reason given was vague to say the least!!!!

... how utterly embarrassing it is that I have been outed for wearing the same shirt in every photo this summer... but clearly there is nothing I can do about it. The truth is that is a used shirt that I have owed for around 15 years and should basically be thrown out.

I was just in Lund about a week ago, (I was visitng Powell River and we went down to Lund to have dinner.) its a very nice place.
Grant, did you go to Nancy's Bakery by any chance? Its very good.

It is a lie that I am working hard. Rather, I worked hard and then flew to my home (the Maritimes) for some rest and relaxation.

I love being in a place where Joel Plaskett is, (to quote a recent interview in The Coast) "too well recognized and has trouble going out".

I love being in place where I can see Two Hours Traffic play an all ages in show in a church hall in PEI and then go hang out with them in the children's nursery after.

I love being in a place where you can get Oland's Export.

I miss you BC and I will see you and your "in- your face beauty" tonight but I must say that the subtle grace of The Maritimes cannot be beat.

It seems the Summer Blog has become a platform to profess your true and undying love for your home province/city/vacation spot. (While still safely heading back to the urban wilds once September rolls around, of course.)

It would, however, be nice if you'd change that shirt once in a while Grant. Or just wash it.

Chris, I'll see your Two Hours Traffic/Plaskett and raise you a Carbon Dating Service/Maybe Smith Folk Fest appearance in a downtown park with a prairie sunset in the west while my right hand raises a glass eastward to you. (And that glass is filled with Boh.)

I am scared of the Canadian wilderness I hate mosquitoes where I am from they call them midges and they do not hurt me the same way!!!! I also hate wasps!!!! I prefer rolling hills green ample valleys, and beautiful locks and streams!!!! Heather even grows on the hillside and if your lucky you can catch a sheep grazing on the pasture!!!!

I know the wilderness has it`s dreary days and desparation. I am a photographic minded person so when I really look at the image of Grant and the girls, I wonder is there any action on the canoe? I mean is it a low budget "Survivor"? I mean by the look on Grant`s face I think no way? Also they all seem like hippies to me. I have a fear of Hippies they are passive agressive in nature like Hard Core Lesbians, and Born Again Christians. I today battle another form of passive aggressive vermin that makes me feel like a lonely desolate loser!!!! It is the church of the Aspiring Hacker and to the right of me Middle aged Virtual Backgammon Queen!!!! Ofcourse it is the Internet Cafe I need my computer back.
