Dear Blog,

So I am at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver, once the largest and most opulent vaudevillian theatre on the entire Pacific Coast, and I am interviewing Feist (footage from that soon).

I say to her "weren't you born in Halifax?" and she says "no, I was born in Amherst, NS." Then I say "I grew up in Sackville, NB" and she says "my drummer lives there and just came back from playing Shotgun and Jaybird's final show."

WHAT?!

So I call up Shotgun Jimmy at his home in Bagtown and he confirms the whole thing. They played their final show at the Capitol Theatre in Moncton, NB opening for band member Julie Doiron on May 5th, 2007. He was cryptic as to reasons for the break-up saying "it was just time", but was appreciative of the call and concern.

So, may they hibernate for now but will hopefully emerge again when the time is right. (Birds hibernate, right?)

In honour, here is Secret by Shotgun and Jaybird.

That sucks alot, but it seemed like it was going to happen sooner or later, especially with Doiron having a busy music career as it is.

it's a damn shame. i'm glad i was able to see them once while they were around, but i'm also pissed that i decided not to see 'em again last month because of exams. i should have just gone... i hope this is just a break and not a break up.
