Legendary British/American band Fleetwood Mac is getting the tribute treatment next month with the release of Just Tell Me That You Want Me
. The album features 17 cover tracks spanning the band’s 40 year career by a who’s who of the indie rock scene, including MGMT, the New Pornographers, Lykke Li, Best Coast and the Kills.
For casual fans of Fleetwood Mac, this tribute album may seem quite odd, but musicians have been loving this band ever since some other musician passed them their beaten-up vinyl copy of Rumours. And that is why, dear music fan, you can expect much more in the future of Mac-related things than just a compilation. After channelling their spirit band, it’s only a matter of time before the influences take over.
A list of Fleetwood Mac trends you may see soon
1. Tortured love triangles.
There have been quite a few lineup changes for Fleetwood Mac, and not just in the musician department. After Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined in the mid-’70s, a whole lot of other stuff took place within the band. Maybe not so good for mental health, but great possibility for emotionally charged chart toppers.
This is not advocating, just pointing out that this drug had a profound effect on Fleetwood Mac. In an interview with Courtney Love
, Nicks was asked about the meaning behind the hit “Gold Dust Woman.” “I know there was cocaine there and that I fancied it gold dust, somehow. I'm going to have to go back to my journals and see if I can pull something out about ‘Gold Dust Woman.’ Because I don't really know. It's weird that I'm not quite sure. It can't be all about cocaine.”
3. Top hats.
Why should Slash be the only one wearing this classic look? He won’t be.
4. University marching bands.
