haha, this morning on R2 Morning with Tom "Muffin" Power, he intro'd Bahamas but in fact it was a Dave Myles song that got played. It actually took me a minute to realize that (in fairness I was in the other room brushing my teeth so I couldn't hear very well at all) But it got me thinking that you know what? There is a lot of similarity between Ol' Dave Myles and The Bahamian one.

Laurita - you asked the question about Said The Whale staying with me here in California.  Yes, they've been with me three times, and now it's an extra day stopover to relax, eat decent home made food . . . and do laundry!  To me, it feels like my son and daughter are home, and they've brought two friends each.  Almost feel like they really are my nephews and nieces!  (Helps that they're my own children's ages!)  And I think they consider it a home stopover, as they wander about the house in pajamas and sweat pants!

They are totally delightful house guests, completely appreciative, always respectful, and they fill my house with happiness.  Yeah, its that good.  And they also, on occasion, fill the house with music, whether on guitar or on the piano in my house.

I've loved having them every time they were here - even though I still feel terrible about the break in of their trailer in front of the house, the infamous "Jacked in the Sac" in 2010.

And thanks to my participation in ToT, I suspect other bands will stop by for a Sacramento layover.

what is NoSoMoSo? it sounds sad and in need of a hug.

@Laurita: Moso (MobileSocial) Fest and Conference is here in Saskatoon this weekend and a bunch of sweet acts will be in town for the next three days. NoSoMoSo is Carly's name she's given for not being able to come up this weekend. <3

@Kathy and Carly-man. You guys sound like a lot of fun and seem to share in my sadness over not being able to go to a lot of the musical acts discussed recently. I wish we could actually meet and discuss this NoSoMoSo in person over beers.

To those of you joining the blog after Craig's show this morning, last night I was looking for my iPhone, and lifted a cushion on my sofa to find a remnant of the last visit of Said The Whale - a Loonie and a guitar pick!  Made me laugh out loud!

Seems like a joined the CBC R3 listeners in a good year.

Laurita: yeah. I didn't speak to her much - my editor interviewed her for CKDU (Dal's campus station). Then we went to see her and Said The Whale (back when she performed with them) at the Toothy Moose, and it was super chill, few people were there. Saw Dan Mangan the night before. No more than 50 people in either crowd. 'Twas excellent.

What was the cut off date?  I thought Chad VanGaalen would be on the list, but it looks like he missed the cut off?

Also, that was a lot of names, was Radio Radio on there?

@ Bengineer-I love going to see musicians in small venues sometimes; it's really nice and intimate and you can really listen to the music and maybe talk to them afterwards. that sounds like a great 2 days!

agreed about BROOD too.  there's other bands on that list that I like but don't think current album necessarily broke new ground or anything. Both EB & Wooden Sky did some great things.  I figured no Wintersleep. not sure it was released eligle but that better damn make it next year.

i love feist metals album.. i agree it takes a few spins.  but i love it; its special, its gooood

Regarding Darcys not making the list:

My theory is that their more heavily hyped album this year was a cover album, which left their other release (their own original works) overshaddowed. Which is too bad because that album is fantastic.

I really love the list but super bummed not to see The Weather Station on the list. Tamara's record is amazing!! 

I can't believe I forgot about Kathryn Calder. That record is great and she totally deserves it. I could even see it making the short list.
