I recently had the unique honour of catching up with Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet after their first show in 18 years.

The reconfigured instrumental trio performed at St. Alban's Boys and Girls Club in Toronto on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 1 p.m. They played two sets to children for a high-quality broadcast on Exclaim! TV. At one point, everyone was served cake, resulting in a sugar spike like no other.

Mammoth Cave, a label based in Lethbridge, Alta., is reissuing the band's catalogue, beginning this month with their first full-length, a compilation called Savvy Show Stoppers

The 2012 version of the band features original members Brian Connelly on guitar and Don Pyle on drums, and filling in for the late Reid Diamond is the Sadies' Dallas Good on bass. Here, all three speak on the current state of Shadowy Men.

Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet play during Sled Island Music Festival in Calgary on Wednesday, June 20, and at Lee's Palace in Toronto on Saturday, July 14.
